If I'm not mistaken, it's been a long time since this race filled completely. Seventeen pre-entries, so I think we should get a dozen even if several are cross-entered.
Doesn't Vekoma have to go in this race as opposed to the Dirt Mile?

I remember Runhappy beat a big sprint field in 2015. I'm pretty sure I get paid to mention his name.
Vekoma- I'd try one turn for more money as the owner, but wouldn't bet him in the sprint against the 6F specialists

I was a bit surprised as some of the pre-entries for the Sprint but yes, why not go for double the purse. Saw the filly Frank’s Rockette has first preference here as well. Nashville also pre-entered.

Has to be the Sprint off the long layoff. Precisionist did it in '85,June 23 until Nov 2.

I'm thinking it'd be easier for him to shorten up and go one turn than to go two turns and to also risk drawing outside, plus, ya, double the money.

Well, we were right about Vekoma going in the Sprint but apparently now a moot point. Being reported Vekoma is out, came down with a fever.

I learned about Vekoma earlier in the day. I was hoping he would go in order to take some money as he was a certain bet against for me and I wasn't going to include in the top 4.

I think Mott’s filly can win this. More later in the week. Steve

I don't know as he's just such an enigma and honestly I think this is just taking a shot, and hope for the best to help get a stud deal somewhere later on. The plan 2 weeks ago was the Dirt Mile but oversubscribed, he was way down on the preference list, so the decision was made to go to the Sprint where he could get in and run for twice the purse.
I admit I am skeptical given he doesn't seem fast enough to win a typical BC Sprint at 6f , his best races have been at 7f and at a one-turn mile and I think he's a tweener not a true sprinter. Having said that, his had a few issues that I think are corrected now, he's still a fairly lightly raced 4YO, and his work Saturday at CD was outstanding, something like 8 of 165. The horse has talent he's ran well enough here before and going 6f so I could see where he could fill up the bottom of the exotics provided he breaks well. That will be the key as while he has a quick turn of foot late I am not convinced he can close at 6f to make a major impact. Last year in his final 2 starts going 6f he broke poorly in the Phoenix and came late on late to be 5th beaten just 1 1/4. In the BC Sprint last year he broke very poorly but still ran on to be 6th, beaten 4 lengths and just a bit over 1 length out of the show spot and that race is his best BRIS race on the current PPs page. I think 25-1 is about where he'll be as the horse has a following and will be bet. He likes to run outside of horses so while he will come wide late, that's what he likes to do and it should provide a better outcome than were he down inside. He should get some pace to chase and if he can run back to last year, I think he's competitive for the exotics as this isn't the best group of horses for a BC Sprint race. I'll have to have something on him and will likely use him under Collusion Illusion and probably in a smaller bet under Diamond Oops.

interested in two bombs here
historically there have been a bunch of horses who run great in the sprint either by running new tops or running back to previous tops after a could not super races. Horse coming in off big figs are almost always gutted from a hard season and run poorly in the BC.
Bon Raison - ran a couple -2.5s last year in the middle of a 21 race year. Kentucky Downs race was BY FAR his best turf race, which he has repeatedly shown he hates. Was hard ridden last time but really only ran the last 100 yds and then flew. seems to be circling back to the top figs from last year and may be capable of even better in the new barn that doesn't send him over every two weeks.
Empire of gold - ran a big new top to a 2 in the lone star July race. then an OK turf race, came back on short rest and paired the 2. come back again on short rest and ran a new top (1). has tactical speed and get a weight break worth half a point. Very likely to run a new top here and it just might be good enough.

Yes to Empire Gold and even a little Collusion Illusion mixed in too. If the horse is doing well and likes the distance, I don't care about who they've been running with. Blend with some diamond oops and call it a day.
