Bob Gibson was a GREAT baseball player who changed the way baseball was played. Not an easy feat. Bob Gibson passed away as the man who caused MLB to lower the pitchers mound by 10 inches. I recall listening to his games on a transistor radio when he dominated World Series games for St. Louis. Cancer has taken one of the best pitchers to ever take the mound.

"(Hank Aaron told me) 'Don't dig in against Bob Gibson, he'll knock you down. He'd knock down his own grandmother if she dared to challenge him. Don't stare at him, don't smile at him, don't talk to him. He doesn't like it. If you happen to hit a home run, don't run too slow, don't run too fast. If you happen to want to celebrate, get in the tunnel first. And if he hits you, don't charge the mound, because he's a Gold Glove boxer.' I'm like, 'Damn, what about my 17-game hitting streak?' That was the night it ended." —Dusty Baker[82]

Whitey Ford. Gone at 91. Passed while watching the NY Yankees playing in the playoff series. How eerie is THAT?

Geoffrey Palmer passed away November 5. If you follow any of the British comedies you will recognize him.
My favorite character of his was the brother in law in The Rise and Fall of Reginald Perrin. His famous line was "Bit of a cockup on the catering front" which I still use today when I burn something or otherwise screwup in the kitchen.
RIP and thanks for the laughs.

Paul Hornung at age 84 today from complications of dementia. Heisman trophy winner and a key member of the great Packer teams of the late 60's.
Even today those names are familiar. Starr, Dowler, McGee, Kramer, Nitschke, Gregg, Hornung, Adderley, Taylor, Lombardi and lots more. Not many of them left.

I believe another running back from Texas Tech was on that team. Donny Anderson. Anderson was born in Borger Texas, about an hour from Amarillo. Anderson was a good punter as well and played RB in the infamous Ice Bowl. Hornung was a great Packer for sure.
What about Benny Hill Large Mac?

Gene, you hit the nail on the head there. I was born in 1960 so I was about 7 years old when they were in their heyday. When you mentioned Donny Anderson I instantly remembered a left-footed punter who wore number 44.
I haven't googled this to be sure but I am pretty confident that I am correct.
Funny I can't remember what I had for lunch yesterday but I can remember Donny Anderson. The human brain has a very eclectic filing system.

When the Packers drafted Donny Anderson and Jim Grabowski, they were supposed to replace Jim Taylor and Paul Hornung and keep the dynasty going. It didn't quite work out.

You are on the money Rob! I never realized what shoes mentioned about being meant to replace Talor and Hornung but that makes sense. Canada has its share of players who excelled in the NFL.

here he is with the best of the best:
