The Travelers Championship will be held in nearby Cromwell, CT this week, making for a short trip from the US Open for most of the players. This year's field appears to be the best ever, including Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth, Rory McIlroy, Jason Day, Brooks Koepka, Patrick Reed and many others. It's not anything close to Augusta National, but for this area it's a great event - always well attended with enthusiastic fans, superb hospitality for the players and their families, and best of all net proceeds to a number of local charities including the Hole in the Wall Gang, a camp established by Paul Newman for provide sick or disabled children with some fun to take their minds off of the difficulties they cope with every day.
The weather appears to be just right to either play or watch golf. Plan to hitch up with a threesome on Friday and walk the course.

Great tournament . I was betting on a Holmes / Watson play off. Elementary mistake on my part.

Casey’s sport psychologist will have his hands full the rest of the season. Had the pleasure of hosting two amateur golfers at my home last week during the Northeast Amateur. www.northeastamateur.com/ABOUT THE Northeast Amateur The Northeast Amateur has a historic list of winners, including Ben Crenshaw, Dustin Johnson, Luke Donald, Scott Hoch, John Cook, Hal Sutton, and David Duval. It has been annually held at the Donald Ross-designed Wannamoisett Country Club since 1962. The event is limited to 90 elite players; there is a cut after 54 holes and the entire tournament is played in twosomes. Both young men made the cut and finished top third of 90 plus competitors. Still recovering from all the walking, eating, drinking and socializing. Can’t wait until the 2019 edition. Hooper

A golfer I hosted the last two years at The Northeast Amateur,Josh Whalen Canadian National Team, has qualified for The US Amateur at Pebble Beach in August. Another,RJ Keur, will attempt to qualify next week in South Carolina. Another,Ian Holt,is now on The McKenzie tour after graduating college in May and has not missed a cut as a pro. It’s fun to follow “my kids”. Hooper
