This meet always brings back great memories for me. My Uncle won it in 1991 with a home bred out of a mare that he campaigned in Trinidad. Incidentally he gave Michael Stoute his first runner in the UK.
Walter Swinburn
Deposki 1991 Ebor Yorkshire folk are the greatest supporters of racing in my opinion, so it was always lovely to be associated with an Ebor meeting winner. One who went under the radar in terms of my involvement was Deposki. He ran away with the 1991 Ebor with Franny Norton riding, not me, but I was delighted to see him win.
The main reason for that is he was owned and bred by a Trinidadian named Winfield Scott, a great supporter of racing and good friend of both Sir Michael Stoute and my parents. On top of that Deposki was born at our family’s stud farm, Genesis Green.
He was identified for the Ebor pretty early on and Sir Michael brought him through to the race perfectly. We did nothing wrong but we knew he was well handicapped and I helped in that department because on the way to York I rode him to beat Quick Ransom at Goodwood. I was good that day because he won by a head when it could have been ten lengths!
On the day itself he was a 12-1 shot but he had the race won before he even entered the starting stalls. I couldn’t do the weight – I would have had to cut off an arm and the rest – but I helped by tuning him up for the race. The yard’s money was down big time. Let’s just say I didn’t lose any money, either.

Not to rain on your day TW but it looks that way.Almost 6mm expected. Good luck. Only 1/4 of an inch in showers. Ground is currently GOOD, good-to-soft in places, so no big change. Make sure your picks don't need the top of the ground to do their best, and bet accordingly. Maybe it will bring Ghaiyyath back to the field just a bit .

York 9:45- 1m4f (1m3f188y) Great Voltigeur Stakes (Group 2) (Colts & Geldings) (Class 1) (3yo)
#3- Darain (5-2) is an up-and-comer, undefeated in two starts; $4.8M son of Dubawi. #8- Subjectivist (12-1) may be the pace-setter, probably his best chance is a front-end theft. Price will be right.

Big prices for the first three races. Great story on Pyledriver who couldn’t attract a single bid at the sales and wins for a very small stable beating million dollar competition .

York 10:15- 1m2½f (1m2f56y) Juddmonte International Stakes (British Champions Series) (Group 1) (Class 1) (3yo+)
Today we find out if #2- Ghayyaith (6-5) is the real deal. 11/8-0-2 career record. Likes to go out to the front and run the competition into the ground. #3- Lord North (9-2), #4- Magical (7-2), and #5- Kameko (4-1) all tend to race keenly as well. I'm thinking that Magical can sit a stalking trip and pounce, she's run races that would win this several times.

Ghaiyyath is the real deal . Magical was in trouble a long way out and it was remarkable that she came back to finish second.

That was very unsatisfying to me, although Ghayyaith is clearly a superior animal. Nobody even tried to go with him, which means you're just trying to run second. Lord North peaked at Royal Ascot, hasn't been seen until today. Kameko doesn't want 10F. Rose of Kildare is a solid 3yo filly which had no business being entered here. Magical is all heart, but even the 4yo version couldn't have won today given the race set up. Hate to bring up the "r" word, but Aidan O'Brien would. Running a rabbit to keep him company for a mile might soften him up late. Or maybe not.

Frustrating morning my way—keyed the first 3 winners and didn’t use the runners-up. Loved Pyledriver and the runner-up had a strong finish last out vs then winner Mogul.
The chalk stakes winner ran away from them from the start, and had another burst at the finish.
Oh well......

Would love to see Ghaiyyath in the BC Classic . Godolphin would love to win it and this year BC is five weeks after Arc which works better for Euros.

sharp Thursday race card
early bird 8:45 Group 2 for 2yof
not sure that the favorites want the distance on soft going. Even my top pick #12 SUSSEX GARDEN(Harrington/Moore) is suspect, though both starts on yielding. #8 SANTOSHA looks poised to upset #7 SACRED. Tossing in 1ster #1 BELLISSIME and #4 MISS AMULET in to the exactas.
win #8 and #12 xbox 1-4-7-8-12
9:15 more 2yof for more $$ sales race seems a step down from above, with little soft form and not much in the way of big efforts(on paper). So a simple shotgun xbox of: 6-8-10-11-14-21
9:45 3+ colts/geldings another crapshoot. small win play on #5 MONTATHAM with a little soft form. Grasping with another broad xbox of 1-2-5-7-17
10:15 the big one for 3+ f/m G1 #5 LOVE is supposed to be the big deal top of the class, and is priced accordingly. #1 MANUELA DE VEGA shows me a lot of up side with two recent soft going daylight wins. Both #3 and #4 lose Frankie D. All show enough class to make adecent effort and go underneath. small suicide chalk tri of 5/1/all and if ahead, a tri pw 1/all/all
miore good races to follow
good luck here and later @ toga!

Good morning spider, thanks for the analysis.
York 8:45- 6f Lowther Stakes (Group 2) (Fillies) (Class 1) (2yo)
The two yardstick races for 2yo fillies have been the Royal Ascot 5F Queen Mary S. (GII) & Newmarket 6F Duchess of Cambridge S. (GII), won by Campanelle and Dandalla, respectively. #7- Sacred (2-1) was a close second to Campanelle, and should be prominent early stretcing out to 6F. Soft ground is an unknown, however. #8- Santosha (9-2) was a fast closing third to Dandalla, then took a GIII next out. #13- Umm Kulthun (15-1) is taking a lot of play off its maiden win at Thirsk.

York 10:15- 1m4f (1m3f188y) Yorkshire Oaks (Group 1) (British Champions Series) (Fillies & Mares) (Class 1) (3yo+)
#5- Love (2-5) clearly the filly to beat. Her 1000 Guineas win was dominant, her Oaks win was a tour-de-force. If someone is going to knock her down a peg, why not #1- Manuela De Vega (12-1), 4yo filly who also boasts two Group wins this season, both when making all the pace. #6- One Voice (7-1) is a tenacious 3yo filly, and it's just possible we haven't seen her best yet. Don't discount.

I agree—I missed ONE VOICE in the entries. She is my top pick for the upset with a win play. adding a 1-5-6 tri and exacta box hoping for any chance of an upset

York 10:45- 1m4f (1m3f188y) British EBF & Sir Henry Cecil Galtres Stakes (Listed Race) (Fillies & Mares) (Class 1) (3yo+)
#8- Award Scheme (6-1) races in The Queen's colours with Haggas & Tudhope at the controls. Won two in a row on the stretchout and ran second in a Listed stake last time to Alpinista, who just finished second to Love in the Yorkshire Oaks. I'm all in.

Blew the big race though. ONE VOICE tired after being the only runner to challenge the chalk winner(who is a good one). The 35-1 runner-up honestly looked to have as good chance as the others for 2nd, and paid extremely well in the tri.
Liked the winner of the next but was driving....
Done for the day

Aiden O'Brien quote. “She was always very exciting — I don’t know if we’ve ever had as an exciting a filly at this stage. I can’t name one that has been as exciting as her at this stage ever,” he said.

Top to bottom, this is as good a card as I've seen anywhere this season, Ascot and Goodwood included. Full fields, great betting opportunities.
York 8:50- 1m1f (1m177y) Strensall Stakes (Group 3) (Class 1) (3yo+)
9F is a rarely run distance in UK/IRE. #3- Dark Vision (6-1) is an improving 4yo which deserves a shot at a Group win. #6- Pogo (6-1) is also much improved from his 3yo form, drops from a third place finish in a GI at the distance in France. #4- Epic Hero (10-1) enters from a February layoff after wintering in Dubai, but fires fresh and should not be overlooked. #5- Lord Glitters (2-1) veteran 7yo GI winner is rounding into form, but I don't think that this is the seasonal goal.
