I used to read a lot of film criticism, Richard Schnickel, Jay Cocks, Pauline Kael and Roger Ebert among them. Today's critics don't resonate with me, maybe it is a generational thing. I really miss Roger Ebert. We didn't always agree on films, though we often did, but upon reading his reviews and why he liked or disliked a film, I could usually tell if I would. I strongly recommend his The Great Movies series of which there e are three volumes. His memoirs book is also terrific.

Deliverance mainly because I canoed and rafted a lot. The start of the Cheat River trip there's the remnants of Albright, a vegas of the past. Would fit the movie.
Potomac River starts with dinosaurs (outlines in rocks if you go to the northern branch which is above the C&O canal). 200 miles and rain 12 of 14 days.
