Half-an-inch to one inch of rain overnight areawide. As of now races 5 (now 9F dirt) & 10 (now 7F dirt) are off the turf. Plenty of scratches and changes to come. Stay tuned.

NYRA site says good and good, is the dirt track likely to be fast later on?

Race 1- #5- Bundibunan (7-2) has slowly advanced through his conditions with a few side trips to stakes company. He had a tough-trip fourth in the rich Dueling Grounds Derby at KD last September behind multiple GIII winner Social Paranoia, and most recently was a fast-closing third to Hierarchy and Voting Control going 9F at CD. Stretchout in distance should help, as would a little cut in the ground. Jose Ortiz aboard boosts his chances but might hurt the price a little.
WIN- 5 Result- 7,5,6 Chad Brown odds-on favorite Value Engineering gets DQd after tiring late and veering into the path of Bundibunan, but nobody was going to beat longshot Counter Offer ($41.00) which stormed home on the outside for the rare Manny Franco turf win.
Race 3- #1- Universal Payday (6-1) hasn't missed the frame in six starts, had to drop to Md40k to get first win, hence qualifying for today. N1X at PEN was a nice effort first time going two turns, and he showed good early speed that day. Wet track would be fine, distance should suit. Will need to improve a bit to catch #4- The Rock Says (3-5) which was claimed by Diodoro last time after Hough/Sagamore dropped him into a N2L to try for a second victory. He's burned a fair amount of money in last four races, no reason he HAS to win this based on the record and generous m/l.
EX- 1/3,4,6 Result- 1,4,6 Exacta $33.00 The stewards have had a lot to do early in the meet. Universal Payday ($11.80) sat off dueling leaders, went a bit wide into the stretch, then came over and brushed The Rock Says as he blew past him, prompting a trainer objection from Diodoro. Stewards left him up, which was the right call, as it didn't cost anyone a placing (although I have a bias ).
Race 4- #2- Leaveuwithasmile (8-5) drops to a winning spot after two sub-par efforts against much better in N1X company. Englehart expects to lose her today, so hopefully she's still a runner.
EX- 2/1,4,5 Result- 2,4,1 Exacta $29.40 Junior Alvarado put Leaveuwithasmile ($6.70) right on the lead like he was on the best horse, and she was. She got claimed as expected, so somebody has a very useful 3yo filly in their barn now.
Race 7- Which Chads to use on top? #1- Catch a Bid (9-2) has been very progressive in five starts, won the Riskaverse S. here last summer. Comeback race was a theft under Gafflione at CD. #9- Blowout (3-1) hasn't missed the triple in eight career starts, with a close-up second in a GIII at Kee when last seen. Long layoff, but nobody does it better. Johnny V. resumes the steering.
EX- 1/2,3,4 Result- 6,2,3 Viadera ($14.40) was the Chad that you needed, finishing well on the outside under Rosario, who does that as good as anyone. Juddmonte runner was a Listed-winner in Ireland as a 3yo. Catch a Bid ended up chasing the loose leader Xenobia and they both folded in the lane.
Race 8- Let's try to beat the Brown machine in this one. #6- Turf War (3-1) comes in from a long layoff, but Clement is okay bringing the good ones back. If you draw a line through her two-turn attempts, she's a quality turf-sprinter with a win in the Christiecat S. over yielding ground at BEL last September. She'll be tough if she's ready.
EX- 6/1,3 Result- 3,2,6 Lady Lawyer ($3.60) was much the best easily brushing off stablemate Olendon. Turf War ran a good race to close for third, proving her mettle as a closing sprinter.
Race 9- Taking a stab with #7- Honor Way (20-1) for Charlton Baker. 6yo mare seems to be rounding back into form, but will need her very best today. Likes the track, likes moisture in the track. BEL tr.t bullet last week.
ATB- 7 Result- 5,9,2 Indian Pride ($6.00) was hard-pressed to win this one, re-breaking in mid-stretch and holding off Blamed. Yet another winner for Chad Brown (yawn). Honor Way outran her 41-1 odds, closing for fifth beaten about five lengths. She'll be a bet back later in the meet.
Good luck today!

It's an entirely resurfaced dirt track in the off-season, so it would be hard to predict. It's quite windy with some sun right now, so you'd think so. The mix is supposed to be deeper (safer) but the times were fast yesterday and seemed fair to off-the-pace types.

Speaking of the weather, the forecast high on Sunday is forecast to be 96 degrees with dewpoints in the upper 60s, making heat advisories a likelihood. With face mask requirements in place, NYRA may have to abandon racing or cancel races later in the day. We'll see.

Hmmm. Wouldn’t be the first time they cancelled a card due to heat. Think I’m headed up to Lake Erie this weekend.

If you look at the range of selections in that race from our group you see that it's wide open or that a case can be made for just about every runner.
