I lost a lot in the first quarter that I started, but now I'm making a profit. But, like everyone else, I have good and bad days. I'm not an expert, but my system works for me, I'm just sharing what I know and I hope it helps someone. Betting on horse racing is like a puzzle. Obviously, the pieces of the puzzle are in the shape of horses, jockey, trainer, owner, race conditions, soil etc. There are several strategies out there, however, choosing the right horses requires your own knowledge. Like any other skill, you need to practice and study horse racing. With experience, you will certainly develop a strategy that works best for yourself. When I started doing what I do in horse racing, it was very impressive not to know anything. As you can see, there are MANY things you can observe when choosing the right horse. You need to develop your own strategy and weigh which factors are most important to you. Meet the horses, jockeys, trainers, owners and routes and some help with horse racing tips that are very useful. You don't have to compete with everyone; there are professionals who have been betting for years, but don't be discouraged, we all have to start from somewhere. Above all, you must love what you do. Watching horse racing really amuses me personally, even in lost times, but, of course, the goal is to make money while enjoying what we do.

First and foremost remember that Favorites win only about a third of the time. Knowing that, there is rarely a reason to bet a very low priced favorite unless part of a muti race or multiangle wager (e.g. pick 3, 4 5 or 6; superfecta etc.).
There is simply no reason to bet your hard earned cash on a 4-5 horse to win, place or show as your anticipated profit is minimal and you stand to lose 2/3s of the time.
Next and it has taken years for me to learn and i have to keep reminding myself, trust your own instincts, dont let yourself be talked out of your selections because the big name handicappers tell you someone other than your selection is supposed to win. If you have put in the time to study the race you will be thrilled when your "unpopular" choice comes home the winner especially at high odds.
Be disciplined. keep records of your wagers, wins and losses and be honest with yourself as this is supposed to be a sport/hobby and is not except for a few people intended to be your livelihood.
finally, i think (and others may agree in here) that there is not one single approach that will work for all of your bets, all of your handicapping. Rather, you may observe patterns over time that you will recognize and once you do you can apply those to handicap multiple races, but there really is not a one size fits all races style of handicapping.
Other than that enjoy the sport for the beauty of the horses, the silks, the atmoshpere (if you are lucky enough to go to the track in person again).
Best of Luck!!
