was lucky enough to work on quite a few shows with this crew--Dom left and they changed their politically incorrect name, now playing as the Rhiannon Giddens band.

Here is the original, late 80's and as always slightly ahead of the curve.
We live in a political world Love don't have any place We're living in times Where men commit crimes And crime don't have any face

up in nyc on Belmont week, my wife and I stumbled on to this show down in the village at the Bowery Ballroom. Show was sold out for a long while, and the door was guarded by a group that could have played linemen for the Jets. Met the owner/operator outside, and explained that we were out-of-towners who couldn't miss this show. He not only let us in, but let us in early to get a prime location. Welch and Rawlings were joined that night by Chris Thile and Gabe Wilcher of the Punch Brothers, singer and bass player from Old Crow Medicine Show, Robyn Hitchcock and Norah Jones. As we left @ approx. 2am, the owner pulled me aside and said "You were right--this show was special, wasn't it?" I replied ""Absolutely" and thanked him again....

a few years later, talked our way in to another sold out show by another of my all-time favorite combos. loved it--recently my wife showed me a video of 5th avenue from the village up to central park--everything devastated, destroyed or boarded up. speechless---don't know when or if ever we will visit again.....so so sad

back in the mid-60s, a friend and I(15yos) hopped on a bus and rode 20 miles north to catch James and the Flames in their prime. Hopped the bus back home afterwards, amazed by the experience....

forgot about this one--got in from dinner late after the Belmont--as we were walking back to our hotel, I noticed a block-long line outside of Iridium(a cool club where we had been a few times). Wife was tired--I was wired, so she crashed and I wandered over to see what was happening. Got in the line, and asked someone who was playing. They replied" Rock Candy Funk Party--Joe Bonamassa's side band." I had never heard the guy, though friends raved about him. As people started to enter the late show, a lady approached, stating that if you didn't have a reservation, no way go home. I thought, damn hate to miss this. As I started to walkj away, another lady(much nicer)stopped me and said, "If you want to get in, wait outside the door until everyone enters, and I will find you a place." Well--eveidently they were filming the weekend, and my seat happened to be at the sound board table. Lucky again up there.... Great show--the other guitarist stood toe to toe with Joe imo....

Anyone else catch these guys back in the day?. I went and saw them with no knowledge of their music or background, but really enjoyed the show.

This song has been in the news the last couple of days.
There's colors on the street Red, white and blue People shufflin' their feet People sleepin' in their shoes But there's a warnin' sign on the road ahead There's a lot of people sayin' we'd be better off dead Don't feel like Satan, but I am to them So I try to forget it, any way I can.
