I don't know if we have any actuaries in the group but this question is definitely one for Warren Schmidt. As a lowly CPA I can't grasp the topic.
The Pick 4 at ASD has a $1 minimum. I believe this is constant no matter where you are playing. (i.e. no option to bet in $0.20 or $0.50 increments)
In tonight's Pick 4 at ASD the total pool was $72,652. The host track takeout is 15% which leaves $61,754.20 available to pay out. This assumption isn't totally correct because if you are wagering from a jurisdiction that mandates a higher takeout then that takeout applies. Hence the net pool pricing.
Currency also shouldn't make a difference because you bet/cash in the same currency. (i.e. there is only one posted winning price)
When they posted the potential payouts one longshot was shown as having a will pay of $45,570.40.
For the life of me I can't understand how to get to this number. For a single ticket that is about 38% take but there isn't enough in the pool to fund 2 winning tickets.
One check would be to see what the pick 4 actually paid on one of the US wagering sites. By my logic it should have paid $837.40 which was the posted price on track. Can someone look and see what the US result paid? Could you also look to see if fractional wagers are available on the ASD pick 4.

I'm going to guess that one ticket was sold in the US. $61,754.20 CAD translates to $46,003.79 USD according to Google at 74 cents. Not sure what the conversion was yesterday or if there's a takeout conversion somewhere to make up for the extra $500 or so.

Propro you are absolutely correct. I got hung up thinking that the prices were posted in CAD. They actually are a blend of all the currencies. In this case it looks funny because the winning currency (USD) doesn't match the pool currency total (CAD). Normally you wouldn't see a single ticket will pay so you never notice.
Thanks for clearing that up for me.
