Hopefully Returns today @ CD Surprised to see him this early in a somewhat ambitious minor stakes, though the competition may not be that stiff. Colts with that serious late turn of foot don't last long--my main concern Though now he needs the points
I have a pretty good future on him @ 16-1
Another on The Tagg runner @ 11-1
Baffert's might be a concern lol

Wouldn’t be a bad prep for the Belmont Stakes.

Adventurous trip—wide with everyone pushing him around Closer than last year—didn’t need the “wow” finish, and wasn’t abused by the rider.
Enough points to make the field?
Maybe one more run? Belmont would be logical, then might need another unless he is that serious and could train up to it—on the same surface as today
Some nice 3yos this year

Are they awarding Derby points for Belmont Stakes? Or Travers if it is moved up? Jim Dandy? I see points are to be awarded for the Haskell.

Changing situation going forward. www.drf.com/news/churchill-announces-partial-schedule-kentucky-derby-qualifying-racesFrom 12 days ago. Additional races from the New York Racing Association and possibly Del Mar also are expected to be added to the points schedule when more information from those tracks becomes available. Meanwhile, if the Preakness or Belmont are run prior to the Derby, their points values would be 150-60-30-15. Neither of those Triple Crown events have yet to be rescheduled. There are seven new points races toward the Kentucky Oaks, which has been postponed to Sept. 4. They are the Santa Anita Oaks (100-40-20-10), the Delaware Oaks (50-20-10-5), the Monmouth Oaks (50-20-10-5), the Dogwood (20-8-4-2), the Indiana Oaks (20-8-4-2), and the Ashland (100-40-20-10) and Beaumont (20-8-4-2) at Keeneland. Churchill issued the following caveat in regard to the new points schedules for both the Derby and Oaks: “Because this is an unprecedented and fluid situation, all races are subject to change and events could be added or removed. Additionally, the point values for each race will be subject to readjustment based on their proximity to all Triple Crown races.”

So, points for Belmont and the winner is essentially in, it would seem.

I'm guessing Maxfield skips the Belmont and runs again 3 weeks later in the Bluegrass at Keeneland.
Points aren't that big a deal(already has 60)and why gut the horse trying to beat the three other top contenders in a one turn race in June. Maybe he could run those horses down but at what cost?
Makes more sense to go the easier route now and beat them in September with a peaking horse.

I hadn’t heard the Keeneland summer meet had been finalized, but either way, yes, for a horse with so few races it might make sense to pass on the Belmont.

Will there now be more points races than were originally scheduled? I haven't totaled up how many were cancelled. The required points to get in may be higher than usual.
Will there be any consideration of an additional futures pool?

I was expecting more like 10 days. Seems they didn’t want to step on the toes of Del Mar and Saratoga.

Love your thinking, big daddy...... Another stretch out trip on a surface where he freaked last year. Winning doesn’t matter—just a safe trip and a very positive finish
Derby would then give him first 5 starts in his familiar successful home territory.
Obviously he doesn’t need much prep. Could be a good one—though very impressed with some of the others.... Might be a hot Derby ahead.....
