Dell, you are killing me.... For the first time in 25 years I won’t be spending the First Saturday in May under the Twin Spires. The Derby is always a special day for me but the duties and responsibilities over the past few years have dampened my enthusiasm somewhat. My spirits have literally been dampened, neigh nearly drowned, thanks to rain in recent years, but no matter my mood on Derby Day, no matter what has happened throughout the lead up, there is one moment that still gives me chills and makes it all worth it. Following the horses through the tunnel from the paddock, I have tried to time my first step on to the track to be at the exact moment 160,000+ friends are full throat, belting out the words “Weep no more my lady.” For the past 24 consecutive KY Derbies that moment has yet to fail to bring about a flood of emotions that cascade over me: the unwavering pride for my home state, fond memories of the family and friends this sport has helped to build amazing bonds with, and such gratitude for the horses that have developed my passion for this sport.
While this First Saturday in May will certainly not be the same, I do find some joy this morning in simply closing my eyes, shutting out the noise around me, and pretending I am at Churchill Downs. I imagining walking through the tunnel, exiting the darkness found there to a canvas of color on track, nodding to friends along the rail, and then hearing a chorus serenade me with the words, “Weep no more my lady”.
Until September....

so true, Ozzy If they let us in, I should be there in Sept. Just watching the Pharoah replay and the crowd on a warm sunny day gave me a bump Fortunately under cover the last two years.....

With the race moving to Sept there's a distinct possibility a couple of entries could easily break the 2:00 barrier but it's highly unlikely any will come close to Sec's 1:59 2/5 but it's not impossible.

...but it's not impossible. "Improbable?" Great post, Ozzy!
