Lyrics Ah, look at all the lonely people Ah, look at all the lonely people
Eleanor Rigby Picks up the rice in the church where a wedding has been Lives in a dream Waits at the window Wearing the face that she keeps in a jar by the door Who is it for?
All the lonely people Where do they all come from? All the lonely people Where do they all belong?
Father McKenzie Writing the words of a sermon that no one will hear No one comes near Look at him working Darning his socks in the night when there's nobody there What does he care?
All the lonely people Where do they all come from? All the lonely people Where do they all belong?
Ah, look at all the lonely people Ah, look at all the lonely people
Eleanor Rigby Died in the church and was buried along with her name Nobody came Father McKenzie Wiping the dirt from his hands as he walks from the grave No one was saved
All the lonely people (ah, look at all the lonely people) Where do they all come from? All the lonely people (ah, look at all the lonely people) Where do they all belong?

I feel like she could have died of Covid-19. Lyrics are erie...
Lives in a dream // heard that a lot lately
Wearing the face that she keeps in a jar by the door // was it an N95 mask or homemade?
Writing the words of a sermon that no one will hear // no church on Easter
Nobody came // temporary graves and no proper funerals for so many families.

Loved it when it was released and it holds up today. My observation was that Paul's growth in writing song lyrics was incredible with the Beatles, but stagnated in his otherwise strong solo career. My theory was always that though he and John began writing separately from Rubber Soul on (except for a snippet here or there), they both still wrote with a strong desire to impress, or not disappoint the other, and then when they split, Paul no longer had that check or inspiration.

Not sure how well this fits, but what the hey. Just saw a Criminal Minds episode where this song by Johnny Cash was playing l. Googled it only to discover it was written by Neil Diamond.
