I think that Moss was the first F1 driver I became aware of, likely from ABC's Wide World of Sports. For a talented driver of his generation it almost seems like he beat the odds to live to age 90. Safety was so much less for a driver in his heyday and so many of the greats were lost to the sport. I remember reading a biography of Phil Hill way back when, and Gurney was also a favorite.

One of my heroes growing up as a kid along with Jim Clark and Graham Hill. Quite an achievement for a racing driver of that era to survive until he was in his nineties. The other two guys are sadly long gone.

The other two guys are sadly long gone. Clark and Graham Hill had a number of memorable duels during the years that Clark was driving for Lotus and Hill was in a BRM. It was always very easy to recognize Hill from the very distinctive design on his helmet, the colors of what I think was his rowing club. It is a terrible irony that for someone who drove for so long at such dangerous speeds, Hill died at the controls of an airplane.
