"The Arkansas Derby, scheduled for April 11, could be moved to a later date in the Oaklawn meet.
The announcement Tuesday that the Kentucky Derby will be moved to Sept. 5 due to the coronavirus pandemic could lead to a new date for the Grade 1, $1 million Arkansas Derby, according to Oaklawn Park president Lou Cella. The Arkansas Derby is currently scheduled for April 11.
Cella said Tuesday that Oaklawn has been in discussions with a number of factions to determine the best date for the 1 1/8-mile race that has been won by such horses as American Pharoah, Smarty Jones, and Sunny's Halo.
“It’s a moving target,” Cella said. “We are in discussions internally, as well as with other tracks, on, ‘What do we believe will be the future of racing in the springtime for this year?’ We don’t know and right now we have to react.
“As of today we are planning on our complete meet, ending on May 2, and as we have scheduled, running the Arkansas Derby on April 11. Now, with the fact that Keeneland has shut down its meet and Churchill has [postponed] the Derby, we have to review the timing and scheduling of [our stakes] and see what makes the most sense for our racing connections, and that’s what we’re reviewing right now. We’ll probably have some changes in the near future.”
Cella said with the current landscape of preps all geared to the first Saturday in May, it might make sense to run the Arkansas Derby later in the meet at Oaklawn.
“Rather than April, maybe we push it back to a different date that might be best for the horsemen,” he said. “We’re talking to the horsemen right now to see what is best. For the horseman with a promising 3-year-old, is it best for him to race on April 11 or race on May 2?
“We’re not going to cancel anything. It just might be a rescheduling. What is best for the horse?”
Cella said decisions would be made in the near future, so horsemen would have time to adjust training schedules.

Arkansas Derby moved to First Saturday in May. I kinda like this since we couldn't have the KY Derby that day.

I think it's okay, they are not letting any jockeys come into Oaklawn from FG or any other places, etc. now which is good. I think it's better not to send people out all over the place right now, everyone can just stay where they are and take care of the horses and race them THERE, w/out spectators. Horses are safe in their barns with their usual keepers. Keeping staff the same is probably a good move right now... If they can do away with those winners circle photos where everyone is standing shoulder to shoulder that would be good though IMHO. wiht the way photography is today people can still stand far apart and photographer can spice them in closer together, manipulating photos, etc. Yeah, I guess I'm pretty into the careful thing.

Split the Field... hmmm.
Might they run the Arkansas Derby in divisions? 2 Gates of 14 each... would'nt that be somethin'. All were pointed to the first Saturday in May, anyway.

Considering they already cut the purse because of the casino closure this option appears doubtful. I kind of wish they had stayed with the running this week, because the situation could get worse.

Ya I would have a hard time seeing them splitting without also cutting the purse massively. It's also going to turn into a race where stakes earnings are the determining factor of who gets in the gate. So a horse like Charlatan will not get in and Bob isn't even pointing him to it. But a horse like Shoplifted will be able to get in because of a weak Springboard Mile win over some recent NW1X allowance winners. There isn't a perfect system and it's the same criteria I use but it's certainly got its flaws.

From Mary Rampellini at DRF:
Oaklawn announces pair of $500K divisions of Arkansas Derby on 14-race card Saturday
Oaklawn Park announced Sunday it will run two $500,000 divisions of the Arkansas Derby this coming Saturday, May 2. They will be showcased on a 14-race card that starts at 12 p.m. Central.
There are currently 21 horses in the entry box for the Arkansas Derby, which is being drawn Sunday.
Oaklawn made the announcement at the end of its daily handicapping show, through hosts Nancy Holthus and Vic Stauffer.
They said each division of the Arkansas Derby will carry the full points value for the Kentucky Derby.
The Arkansas Derby will share a card with the Grade 2, $600,000 Oaklawn Handicap that is expected to have a full field of 14.

RACE 11
With Charlatan @ 1-1 odds... players should watch for jumpers in the show pool. Flashy - untested - perfect spot to play against what will be an over bet Baffert favorite.
Anneau d'Or wins this because I have a 31-1 KD Future Pool 1 ticket says he wins May 2nd. 1 Charlatan 1/1 2 My Friends Beer 20/1 3 Mo Mosa 30/1 4 Gouverneur Morris 9/2 5 Jungle Runner 30/1 6 Shooters Shoot SCRATCH 7 Wrecking Crew SCRATCH 8 Anneau d'Or 6/1 9 Winning Impression 15/1 10 Crypto Cash 20/1 11 Basin 8/1
RACE 13 Rooting for Wells Bayou (Lookin At Lucky ) to win...
but that only happens if King G goes with Nadal early. King G wins if Wells Bayou fights it out early with Nadal. Baffert, Rosario and Nadal win if allowed an uncontested lead. 1 Finnick the Fierce 15/1 2 Saratogian SCRATCH 3 Storm the Court 6/1 4 King Guillermo 3/1 5 Nadal 5/2 6 Code Runner 50/1 7 Silver Prospector 10/1 8 Fast Enough SCRATCH 9 Taishan 15/1 10 Farmington Road 12/1 11 Wells Bayou 7/2

The connections of four horses—Shooters Shoot and Wrecking Crew (first division) and Saratogian and Fast Enough (second division)—have informed the Oaklawn racing department they will be scratched. According to a news release issued by Oaklawn Park publicity, official scratch cards for Shooters Shoot and Wrecking Crew had already been submitted. Cards for Saratogian and Fast Enough are expected to be submitted Friday.

Looks like the scratch of Wrecking Crew for Peter Miller could get contentious as related to a vet list issue in CA.
If Charlatan is what he has appeared to be in his first two starts, he demolishes this field. Being inside and on or near the lead seemed like the place to be yesterday so that only helps his chances in my opinion. Was high on Govenour Morris early but that FL Derby was no bueno. He could rebound but as 2nd choice, no thanks. My play will be Crypto Cash as he stumbled at the start of the Rushaway, lost touch with the field, and made a late run to be beaten 4 or 5 in his first start in 4 months. I think McPeek is just getting him in form and I would have expected him to run at Keeneland, perhaps in the Lexington, and while he won’t be his 20-1 ML, I think he will offer some value underneath in the cold exacta.
In the 2nd division, Nadal seems workman like and not as flashy or brilliant as his stablemate. If he can settle, he has a chance for sure but there is a lot of others in here who run on or near the lead so I am anticipating a fast pace. With that said, give me Farmington Road for the win over Nadal. Silver Prospector would appear to also benefit from a contested pace and seems to be on a pattern of good race, clunker with today being the time for a good race. Still, he majorly disappointed in the Rebel with a quick pace to run into. Maybe it was the slop but he won at CD in the slop. Still pondering that one.

Twinspires is not currently showing any scratches in the 13th. Of interest to me because I think Fast Enough has a chance.
UPDATE- now showing as scratched.

Rumors on a speed figure board that 2 Baffert horses tested positive at Oaklawn. The results from the May 2 Arkansas Derby day card at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, Ark., could still be up for revision. A spokesperson for the Arkansas Racing Commission confirmed Tuesday that the commission is awaiting split sample tests on the May 2 closing-day card but could not provide further details, including which horse or horses tested positive in initial post-race tests. Typically, complaints or rulings against horses and trainers are not made until after split sample results come back. A trainer informed of a positive test may request that a portion of the remaining blood or urine sample be tested by a different laboratory than the one that called the positive test.

Not Justify all over again. Baffert is not on his home court this time When do we as owners and bettors put a stop the drugs in the game?
Some more sh!t. I could probably post stuff everyday but it seems like most people just tolerate it.
Stewards at Prairie Meadows published their decision Tuesday(today) to fine Hall of Fame trainer Steve Asmussen $1,000 because his trainee, Shang, returned a positive test for Atenolol following a second-place finish in the 2019 Iowa Derby. Atenolol, a beta-blocker, was found in the post-race urine same at 1.99 ng/ml, and that finding was confirmed by a split same. The drug is listed as a Class 3, Penalty B substance in the The Association of Racing Commissioners International (ARCI) model rule guidelines. Those guidelines also recommend a 15-day suspension, but Asmussen was not suspended. In a tele-hearing with the stewards, Asmussen, assistant Darren Fleming, and attorney Clark Brewster “did not dispute the positive test, but rather provided evidence as to the potential cause,” according to the ruling.
In case you don't what Atenolol is prescribed for here is a description. F'n unbelievable. Wake up to what these trainers are doing to our horses and game. Uses Atenolol is used with or without other medications to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. This medication is also used to treat chest pain (angina) and to improve survival after a heart attack. Atenolol belongs to a class of drugs known as beta blockers. It works by blocking the action of certain natural chemicals in your body, such as epinephrine, on the heart and blood vessels. This effect lowers the heart rate, blood pressure, and strain on the heart.
