”Keeneland’s Spring Meet will open on April 2 without spectators. However, a limited number of credentials will be provided to those directly connected to horses running at Keeneland.”
Begs the question, will they announce the races or go back to their old tradition? I’d imagine for the telecast they’ll have it.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Keeneland will not allow spectators for its upcoming Spring Meet.
The track is implementing the change in response to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak.
According to a press release, Keeneland’s Spring Meet will open on April 2 without spectators. However, a limited number of credentials will be provided to those directly connected to horses running at Keeneland.
Patrons who purchased tickets for racing dates between April 2-11 will automatically receive a full refund on those purchases.
Patrons who have already purchased tickets for racing dates between April 15-24 have the option to request a full refund at any time.
“While our horsemen and fans are certainly disappointed about us having to take these measures, it is critical to protect the health and safety of our patrons, employees and participants from the spread of COVID-19,” Keeneland President and CEO Bill Thomason said. “We take our responsibility to the community and the horse industry seriously and we will continue to work in partnership with government authorities.
Keeneland says they will consider re-opening to spectators on April 15 after talking with health experts.
I have plans to be there April 15-16, so they have not ruled that out yet.

And Oaklawn:
"As the only professional sports franchise in Arkansas and in the best interest of our patrons, Oaklawn Racing Casino Resort has decided to run all races this weekend without onsite spectators."
In an industry facing as many headwinds as is horse racing, one must wonder if the industry may not be facing a radical reorganization/downsizing, if not worse.

Hmmm, per DRF:
Separately, Churchill Downs announced that preparations to host the Kentucky Derby on May 2 “are still moving forward.” However, the company made clear in its announcement that it does not expect to cancel the Derby outright and is expecting to run the race at a later date if the coronavirus outbreak is not contained.

It's a temporary situation. I see the wisdom in taking things slow now that there is more testing so we know what we're dealing with, at least for about 21 days or so. After which everyone can regroup. Totals I had for USA on 3/11 was 973, by today 3/13 it was up to 2329. Its important to help keep older people from getting this, IMHO. Regular flu season is bad enough and we don't know enough about this new one to which nobody has any immunities and the propensity for it to manifest as more severe and/or mutate more than seasonal flu is possible.

From CD:
"For these reasons, we have been working carefully and diligently with relevant health experts and authorities to ensure we make the most responsible decision regarding the timing of the 146th Kentucky Derby this year. We thank you for your patience and are committed to providing regular communication and transparency as we move forward. This is not a decision we take lightly and we expect to have an update about the Kentucky Derby and additional information on our upcoming Spring Meet in the coming week."

Laurel took entries today for Saturday's races and put a morning line on Friday's card. Looks like they're trying to race.
