I'm looking to breed my mare Wheely Pink for racing. She's a medium build, about 16.2h. Winner, but had siblings that could run. I'm in NY, I love Majestic City here,I do love City Zip. I have a chance to take her to KY. So I'd like some advice on some stallions that would be a good match with her. Looking for value and to improve. Stud fees $5,000 - $12,500. Foaling in NY. I'd like to stay away from heavy Northern Dancer, Mr.Prospector, and Storm Cat lines. Here are a few I like:
Kettle Corn (OH) $2,500 Dominus $5,000 Ransom the Moon $7,500 Competitive Edge $12,500 Macho Uno $10,000 Mizzen Mast $7,500 Mucho Macho Man $10,000 Skipshot $5,000
If you could think of any others, I'd greatly appreciate that.

I will post some choices by Monday. Busy but interested when I saw Tri Jet in the pedigree. Lot of stallion shows this time of year to see their physicals. Where do you live? Family coming in tomorrow for belated a Christmas. One daughter was in MI for the holidays and the other was in China for business for 2 weeks in January. Finally got our schedules to match up. I'm in NY and plan to foal out in NY, but I may take her to KY for breeding. I really want to stay away from heavy Northern Dancer, Mr.Prospector, Storm Cat lines. I got this mare a couple of years ago, she was a wreck. It took me awhile to figure how to keep weight on her. She still has some behavioral issues from not being fed properly, food anxiety. This year is the first time I've had an opportunity to breed her.

Given that your mare has had past health issues and is now 14 years old it may be very difficult for her to become pregnant and successfully deliver a foal. You can research this on google if you want as there are many articles on the subject and I post a link to one below. Honestly to ship the horse to Kentucky to get bred when she still has some behavioral issues may not be in her best interests. If you are intent on becoming a breeder (which I can attest can bring both joy and heartbreak) then there are many sales where you can buy proven broodmares rather cheaply thehorse.com/148754/breeding-older-mares/

Her issue is just food aggression and anxiety, but has improved since I've had her. She is very sweet, but I think most of her issues are from being mistreated in the past. She is in good healthy weight now. I was spending money on different weight builders that didn't work, finally found something that worked, the people in her past didn't want to put the time in figure her out.

Age is an issue---Dominus goes back to the Wimborne Lord At War runners, I believe---that is an incredible group of mares imo. He has an occasional fast 2yo--still at Spendthrift? I would want to have a NYbred because of the big purses and abundance of state-bred races Then again-- for the last 20 years, I have had little to no luck breeding mares nor with runners
You could try--I wouldn't spend at the top end......

Has the mare gone through a breeding exam from your vet? Older mares often have issues. There might be something going on. Would be cautious of the behavioral issues, they can be passed on. Mare's conformation should be taken into account when selecting a stallion. Get an objective opinion. Members here are supportive but also try to be realistic. Looks like a long shot with the info I have. Have you been in touch with any farms yet?

Thank you for your thoughts and advice. Researching options. I'll make a decision after my mare checks out for breeding soundness and consulting with vet.

we recently lost this year’s foal to the broodmare virus in Ky. Last vet check indicates the mare to be ok, so back to Goldencents trying again.
Animal Kingdom yearling having a small chip removed from an ankle.
Be careful going in to this! Best of luck to you!

Be careful is right. Been lucky to hit a breeding home run every 5-6 years to keep me in the game.
