Is there a story behind the reason Smith is off McKinzie?

He got fired. Baffert didn’t like the ride last time and decided to try a change.

Smith moves to Yoshida... significant, imo.

imo a better fit with Yoshida—a sweeping late wide move?

Baffert didn’t like the ride he gave McKinzie last race, so he decides to make a change? That does not compute!
Makes no sense at all. I don’t believe that for a second.

That’s like telling Michael Jordan that he’s sitting for game two of the NBA Championship series for missing the second half of a one and one foul shot in the first game.

Something to do with Omaha beach considering the classic at the time?

Google it guys, was big news the week after the race. Absolutely correct. I remember reading it at the time and thought that Baffert was looking for excuses for a poor performance.

To Bob Baffert,
How was it a bad race? Mongolian Groom and McKinzie were several lengths ahead of the rest of the field at the wire. Mongolian Groom was all out to win. I do not believe, from a training perspective, that the same can be said for McKinzie.
You are a showman. You talk in circles.
When has Smith’s riding skills come into question in the last 10 years?
I have no clue what the true reason for Smitty being off the horse is, but I choose not to believe it is because of Smitty’s riding ability.
I would love to hear what you saw that makes you believe Smitty should have used the horse more than he did in that race, with the Classic being the ultimate goal.
Am I missing something?
