Looking for a long shot in the Oaks. I've narrowed them down to 3.
A} Chocolate Martini 12/1 – Amoss claimed her out of a $30K claimer in Feb. and 2 weeks later won with her in a $50K OC at 27/1. A month later won with her in the FG's Oaks at 14/1 Can he move her up to win this one now? Getting Castellano up top for this one should help.
B} Rayya 12/1 – The unknown one as far as I'm concerned. She did beat all but one of the boys in Dubai and that's a plus. She's not being trained with Baffert and that's a plus. She'll be on Lasix doe the first time and that's a plus. I know Bob uses Castellano when possible in the big races and I have to wonder if JJ was already commited to another in this race. But I have to admit Bob has found another go-to kind ofrider in Van Dyke who has ridden for Bob in 22 races and won 11 of them.
C} Classy Act 15/1 – Castellano and/or Calhoun made a big mistake, in my opinion, by trying to wire the FG Oaks field (BRIS race shape figs +23, +24). They had her pulling away from the field for the first couple of calls then she started to slow – she ran the ½ mile in :46.1 and the 3/4s in 1;11 flat. I think she ran gamely considering 3 horses passed her before the wire but she still was beaten only 1-1/2 lengths by the winner.
It really both favorites look like both of them are almost unbeatable. Neither of them had a whip touch them going down the stretch and could have won by 10 lengths if pushed.
