York 1:55- 5½f Sky Bet And Symphony Group Handicap (Class 2) (3yo+):
#3- Dakota Gold (9-2) and #7- Camacho Chief (12-1) are both trained by Michael Dods. The former likes to make all the running, while the latter tends to come from off the pace; Dakota Gold just won at Ripon going 6F on Saturday, strike while the iron is hot? Both have had much success at 5F, can't leave either out of this. #2- Final Venture (12-1) doesn't win many but is always close at the wire, must use underneath with Oisin Murphy aboard. #8- Stone of Destiny (8-1) finally got some class relief last out, got his nose down when it counted. Meets similar here, but not sure he can string together wins at this point. #5- Gunmetal (12-1) ran creitably against much better in last two at Royal Ascot and Goodwood, drops back in class and distance, should make his presence felt.
EX- 3,5/2,3,5,8 WP- 7
York 2:25- 7f Tattersalls Acomb Stakes (Group 3) (Class 1) (2yo):
Cobra Eye is out. Hard to separate most of these colts. With Dettori riding #1- Cobra Eye (6-1) will be much shorter than the m/l odds, but is a half to two 2yo stakes winners. At the offered prices, I'm looking at #2- Ethic (7-1) which stretches out today for Haggas/Marquand, should improve again in third career start. #7- Ropey Guest is still a maiden but was close to the winner in a pair of Group 2s, dropped last time and was third over soft going he may not have cared for. WP appeal. #8- Valdermoro (6-1) exited a key maiden race at Haydock Park to romp at Doncaster last out, in good time over perhaps a lesser bunch. The two O'Brien horses have every right to win but are unlikely to hold at their m/l odds either. Looking outside the box here. #6- Persuasion (7-2) broke his maiden at first asking going 7F at Goodwood despite trouble, appears to be well regarded.
EX- 6/2,8 PLACE- 7

York 3:00- 1m4f Sky Bet Great Voltigeur Stakes (Group 2) (Colts & Geldings) (Class 1) (3yo):
Field of five featuring four stakes veterans and a lightly-raced up-and-comer. #1- Constantinople (2-1) has had his Curragh win flattered by the continuing success of Buckhurst; subsequent neck losses to South Pacific and today's foe Nayef Road have him very sharp right now, should have pace to track in the form of his stablemate #5- Norway (12-1). #3- Logician (6-5) son of Frankel has three daylight victories in as many tries, makes initial stakes foray for Abdullah (Juddmonte)/Gosden/Dettori. Season's goal is the Group I St. Leger S. (1 13/16mi) next month at Doncaster, needs to run well here to move on. #4- Nayef Road (7-2) trainer Mark Johnston has been hunting around for the colt's best distance all season. He was third to Dashing Willoughby and Barbados in the GII Queens Vase at Royal Ascot, and second to Spanish Mission going 1 5/8mi at Newmarket. Undoubtedly a St. Leger candidate as well with a strong finish today. Jalmoud and Norway look out of their depth in this heat.
WIN (5-2 +)- 1 Should be an interesting race to watch.
York 3:35- 1m2½f Juddmonte International Stakes (British Champions Series) (Group 1) (Class 1) (3yo+):
If #2- Crystal Ocean (6-5) has sufficiently recovered from that epic duel with Enable last month, he will take a lot of beating today. Marvelous horse, thrilling to watch him from the 2f pole to the wire. #3- Elarqam (10-1) has found his best distance this season, very imprssive win over C&D last month, could offer a real threat to the top one and might prove best of the rest. #5- Regal Reality (20-1) may not have cared for the going last time, showed well facing Enable in a Group I two back, can't dismiss from the placings with Sir Michael calling the shots. Of the 3yos, #9- King of Comedy (3-1) may offer the most upside. Dettori loves him, but thought he needed to ripen just a bit after his Heron S. victory and second to Circus Maximus in the St. James's Palace. After two months away, he is now targeting the GI Champion Stakes at Ascot in October, so today is likely just the first of two steppingstones to that one. Too short a price to use against the likes of these, but will be the other one to watch closely during the late running. #8- Japan (5-1) can handle the drop back from 12 furlongs, is Ryan Moore's mount for A. O'Brien rather than Circus Maximus. Win at Longchamp was workman-like, previous victory at Royal Ascot showed he can quicken from off the pace, at least against his age group.

York 4:15- 2m Sky Bet Handicap (Class 2) (4yo+):
17 runners before declarations. #1- Dubawi Fifty (10-1) found the 2 9/16mi (lol) too much last out, but 2 miles is right in his wheelhouse. Third race of the form cycle, and with Frankie aboard that m/l price shouldn't hold. #5- Rare Groove (15-1) is in career form, has to be considered. Same could be said about 7yo #6- Eddystone Rock (6-1) (sounds like a Flintstones campground). #13- Makawee (12-1) filly likes the course and distance.
EXBOX- 1,5,6,13
York 4:50- 6f Sky Bet Nursery Handicap (Class 2) (2yo):
22 runners before declarations. #2- Troubador (12-1) has win over the course and is 4-for-5 at the distance. Must use underneath at worst. #3- Homespin (8-1) bred by Godolphin ( www.pedigreequery.com/homespin2 ) is progressing nicely for Johnston/J. Doyle. #7- Buhturi (15-1) had excuses in latest, should appreciate firmer ground and drop back to six panels.
WIN- 3 PLACE- 2,7

York 3:00: WIN (5-2 +)- 1 Results- 3,1,5 $0.00
York 3:35: TRI- 2/3,5,8,9/3,4,5,8,9 Results- 8,2,3 $0.00 Surprised that Crystal Ocean couldn't quite see out the trip, getting nipped at the wire by Japan, who put up the form he showed at Royal Ascot today. Elarqam ran well to be third, he's in career form right now; looking forward to his next start.

York 4:15: EXBOX- 1,5,6,13 Results- 6,5,12 $96.40 That was more like it, great payout for two horses in peak form.
York 4:50: WIN- 3 PLACE- 2,7 Results- 16,2,9 $5.20 Place money on the 2. Scratching my head wondering how I only got $5.20 on a 10-1 shot with a $40.80 winner.
A good day overall. $64 in, $111.40 out. Nice card for tomorrow at York with Enable in the Oaks and a Group 2, a Listed race, a 2yo restricted stakes, and two handicaps.

Let’s not forget that Crystal Ocean was conceding 7 pounds to Japan and just got a beat a head .
