Seems to be a lot of speculation growing that the BC will be moved given all of the fatalities at SA this meet. Might a total rebuild of the racing surface be considered? That hasn’t even been suggested as of yet. Churchill seen as the most likely alternative, although perhaps Del Mar could step up keeping it in SoCal.

I've read that there is a meeting of the BC people coming up soon (perhaps a regularly scheduled meeting) where moving the BC will be discussed. "The latest death could be a blow to Santa Anita’s hope of hosting the Breeders’ Cup on Nov. 1-2. The Breeders’ Cup board meets in Lexington, Ky., during the last week of the month. It’s there that it is expected a decision will be made on the host of this year’s event." www.latimes.com/sports/more/la-sp-santa-anita-horse-death-27-20190606-story.html

Individual 1 - "Are they going to move Breeders' Cup?"
Individual 2 - "I don't think so. Del Mar already said
they couldn't be ready in time. Churchill says they could do it."
Individual 1 - "Is Santa Anita going to lose the Breeders' Cup?"
Individual 3 - "No, they're not gonna to move it.
They're gonna talk about it, but it's not gonna happen."

Not having been to every track in the country, are there any other tracks that have enough hotels that could handle a BC? What about New Orleans? Everyone would want to go there. They seem to be able to handle that Mardi Gras crowd pretty well. How many seats do they have? And how many temporary seats can they add?. They probably wouldn't be able to do it this year but it would be one huge party if they held one there.
I've been to Keeneland a couple dozen times but they didn't seem to have a ton of seats and a hundred hotels but was still able to handle a BC. I wasn't there for it but I didn't hear many complaints.

What I find interesting is the number of tracks that (so far) have been one-and-done. Woodbine, Arlington, Lone Star and Monmouth, IIRC. I went to the BC at Woodbine and it was a nice event IMO and the big Euro-style Turf course is certainly a plus for the turf races. If they do move it this year it seems CD will be it by default. New Orleans certainly is an interesting option if the Fair Grounds wants to step up and bid for it. As it is now, they start their normal meet only a couple weeks later. Meanwhile, another Newspaper calling for a move to CD this year, and an interesting article overall: www.kentucky.com/sports/spt-columns-blogs/john-clay/article231437963.html

If Del Mar can’t be ready CD is the only other option and that would mainly revolve around the timing of the November Bloodstock sales and so many players needing to be in Lexington shortly after (just my opinion).
The BC committee doesn’t meet until the end of the month to finalize this year’s host, after the SA meet concludes. If no other issues arise, no change will occur. If, and we all hope not, something else were to occur however, then I think they have to seriously consider the change simply for the optics/PR.

29 horses have died at Santa Anita this season.
It's nowhere near the track's deadliest year -- not by a long shot. By Eliott C. McLaughlin, CNN

The answer to this ? is most assuredly going to be YES. As time goes on without any change(or real discussion of change), we can expect no change.
I don't follow west coast racing and never have(time difference being a big factor + Ky/NY is enough for me). They seem to be in their own collapsing world any more. Maybe less medication control? Too much pressure to run horses to fill fields? Not prepared for a long hard rain season? Too many cheap horses forced to race?

We find out the definitive answer on Thursday(27th) when they meet (Breeders Cup) to determine what if anything they need to do. Santa Anita and So.Calif have invested a lot in anticipation of getting the Breeders Cup. On the other hand, you can count on PETA turning out in force when they run.(where as if they run at CD...no such thing)....tune in Thursday.....

Spoke with the head of marketing today and he says... "We are moving ahead as though there will be no change of venue." He told me to plan on being at Santa Anita for Breeders' Cup.

Its all well and good that the Bc Board voted to keep the Bc at SA, but the way i'm reading this is that the CHRB can shut down racing at any track in California without notice if they deem it unsafe. So on that note was it really wise to vote for the Bc to stay at Sa ? One horse death the week before the Bc and the CHRB can shut it down. Or am I missing something.

I worry that less people will ship in and/or come from over the pond?
