There will be no Triple Crown on the line in the June 8 Belmont Stakes, but some top members of the current 3-year-old crop are expected nonetheless to join Preakness Stakes winner War of Will in the classic race at 1 1/2 miles. Probable
• Trainer Dale Romans will likely go on to the Belmont with Everfast, who closed for second in the Preakness. • Tacitus, fourth across the wire and placed third in the Kentucky Derby, returned to the work tab over the weekend. • Master Fencer, the Japan-bred who ran sixth in the Derby with a late rally, is back to training at Keeneland. • Sir Winston is, as with War of Will, trained by Mark Casse. He exits a closing second in the Peter Pan (G3), a local Belmont prep. • Intrepid Heart, a half-brother of Commissioner, ran third in the Peter Pan after some trouble leaving the gate. So, that makes six. And there’s an even larger number of horses who could join with the race still three weeks out. Possible• Brad Cox, who conditions Owendale, said Sunday morning he “won’t completely rule out” the race for third-place Owendale. • Bob Baffert-trained Game Winner remains at Churchill Downs after running fifth in the Derby with an exceedingly wide trip. • Global Campaign, the Peter Pan winner, is another possibility, but whose connections are more so eyeing the Travers (G1) later this summer. • Plus Que Parfait, eighth in the Derby, and Tax, 14th, are said to be in the mix. The latter could also wait until July’s Belmont Derby (G1) on turf. • Bourbon War could still get a shot. He exited a flat eighth in the Preakness without issues. Out• Signalman, who was ninth at Pimlico, was expected to go on to the Belmont. But trainer Kenny McPeek announced Sunday his colt bled and will receive time off. www.horseracingnation.com/news/Who_joins_War_of_Will_in_the_Belmont_Stakes_Field_shapes_up_123

Speaking of Bourbon War, I saw that Kerry Thomas felt the blinkers messed up his herd dynamics. Wonder if Bev heard that and had any thoughts ? (I know he said no excuses).

Hennig only 8% when adding the blinkers. Bourbon didn't look like the horse we saw in the Florida races. (track?,blinkers? 7 wks off?) I think we throw the Preakness out and get to see a turn around from him.
"It's a long season. It's not all about Saturday, it's about the summer (yes, Saratoga would be a goal) and whole career for the horse. You don't want to get too excited."

Spinoff is the type that could gallop nice and slow all the way around at the front. Pletcher pretty good at figuring out which of his horses can relax and get the distance. Maybe a well rested Tacitus could catch him late.

The last paragraph is the most important. Hooper
Katsumi Yoshizawa's homebred Master Fencer, an eye-catching sixth in the Kentucky Derby rallying up the rail under Julien Leparoux for trainer Koichi Tsunoda, will make his next start in the Grade 1, $1.5 million Belmont Stakes presented by NYRA Bets on Saturday, June 8 at Belmont Park.
The Japanese-bred son of Just a Way will arrive at Belmont Park on Friday evening from Keeneland Race Course in Lexington, Kentucky, where he has trained towards the 1 ½-mile 'Test of a Champion'.
"Master Fencer was the first Japanese bred to run in the Kentucky Derby and we are continuing on that path of firsts. I needed to see how he'd run in the Derby before making any plans for his immediate future, but I'd always felt like the Belmont Stakes would be the logical next step for him if he proved himself worthy in the Derby first," said Yoshizawa. "Ultimately, he performed better than we could have hoped, so I gave the trainer and staff the go ahead to prepare for the Belmont. I think he will have a better chance in the Belmont than he did in the Derby. I think America's dirt racing is the best in the world, so I know winning won't be easy but I hope he has a chance to run his race and come home safe and sound."
Master Fencer's presence in the Belmont Stakes will open the race for pari-mutuel wagering in Japan. Through an agreement reached between NYRA and the Japan Racing Association (JRA), Japanese wagering on the Belmont Stakes will be conducted through a separate, non-commingled pool.

Baffert said the reigning 2-year-old champ, who took a wide trip on his way to finishing fifth in the Kentucky Derby, "is not quite where I want him."
The primary target is now the Travers Stakes (G1) with a race to be determined before the Aug. 24 "Mid-Summer Derby" at Saratoga.

Interesting, hooper--thanx! With the huge amount of action the Japanese colt will take at home, we can be sure that the wise guy action will find it's way over here to neutralize the odds difference. Where has this colt been stabled and worked for the last month?
I like Tacitus at this time and am glad to see Game Winner out of the mix. Hard to go against War of Will and his connections--maybe the best 3yo out there, and running in all 3 legs

Master Fence being in a separate pool does little to excite. Tacitus will be wildly overbet and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him favored over War Of Will. Give me Intrepid Heart at 8-1.

Almost always a good betting race with some on the list pending works today or tomorrow.
WOW Tacitus Master Fencer Owendale Intrepid Heart Spinoff Tax Sir Winston Everfast Joevia
I can toss Everfast,Joevia at the distance. Everyone else seems to be in play for a piece of this.
Of interest would be who Rosario rides between Everfast and Sir Winston. Who JR takes among the Pletcher's and if Irad ends up with a live mount. His ride on Creator in 2016 was special.

Those odds are from the knuckleheads on horse racing nation.
In the real world Tacitus and WOW will be a shorter maybe 3-2 and 2-1.
Master Fencer,Sir Winston,Tax higher.
ML seems plausible on the two Pletchers and Everfast but no clue how they'll actually get bet.

Mike Smith won the triple crown aboard Justify last year. He chose to ride Omaha Beach over Roadster in this year's Kentucky Derby. When Omaha Beach scratched, he ended up on Cutting Humor, trained by Todd Pletcher, and ran 10th. Smith was aboard Improbable for Bob Baffert in the Preakness, and finished 6th.
Wishing Bourbon War and Mike Smith the best of luck in the Belmont!!!

Read this on NYRA.com Hooper
"He was not tired at all after the race," said Hennig. "I don't know how much running he actually did. I held him for a bath after the race and he bit me in the stomach and tore my shirt. He was actually angry after the Preakness."

Read this on NYRA.com Hooper "He was actually angry after the Preakness." So was I...as a result of his performance! I think he will do much better this time around...without the blinkers.
