It’s the week before the Derby and Oaks and I feel like I’m talking to myself! Come on. Where is everyone? Let’s get some banter going. Spider, big daddy, croixboy, elk, boozer, etc. .Who do you like? Hooper, ten furlongs, doc and gooch are about the only one’s I’ve seen on here. And I think Dell chimed in. I long for the old days. Tons of chatter. Let’s step it up guys! Steve

I don’t know about breeding and all that other stuff.....don’t have a ton of stats in my head or compiled like the rest of you.... just play for fun..... i am going to play By My Standards....not for any particular reason... I like to play hunches.....possibly going to throw a couple of bucks to show on Gray Magician as I associate the name with being older and still being spry and Master Fencer as my son took fencing in High School.... Still have a few days to decide..... Luck to all.......

I'm rolling with By My Standards, because I believe his last race was faster and better than people give him credit for. He ran 2 seconds faster than the olders that day. The second fastest Louisiana derby ever. He has been working up a storm at Churchill. Personally don't feel like his breeding is going to be a problem, seems like he will run all day. I also like WOW, he also has been working out great. I will play them up and down in exacta's with all.
In my opinion this is a very good, competitive derby.

Moderate to honest pace.
PRE DRAW Win Contenders-Omaha Beach,Improbable Longer odds horse live to hit the board-Tax
Wild card-War of Will could hit the board or run 18th
Last prep winners not on my tickets-Max Security,PlusQue,Vekoma,Cutting Humor,By My Standards*
Wise Guy-By My Standards
*Goldencents/A Jealous Woman/Muqtarib miler pedigree can stretch to nine furlongs but won't appreciate the extra distance is my guess.

Here, I was afraid I was chiming in too much.

Just released from being held hostage in Dallas. Headed to Louisville Thurs for the 2-day endurance test. Anyone else going? Can I finally find Ozzy? Heart-breaking beats throughout the Kee meet but have been very lucky for the last week--praying for it to continue.
I see it going through the Bafferts, though Mike Smith on a contender of Mandella's scares the hell out of me. I like By My Standards since we just bred our mare to Goldencents. I like Game Winner off of his two hopefully tune-up preps(where he wasn't totally cranked vs Omaha and wasn't overly used vs Roadster--two other serious contenders). I expect him to be the favorite come post time. Bobtail might make a good point on Improbable's pedigree ig the blinks were not the reason for not finishing vs Omaha. Winx3 seems to be under the radar while finishing very well every time. Definitely a ticket-maker. Tacitus has an incredible pedigree and will be a big-priced stud if he wins something. Not sold on his finishes though Mott knows what race really matters. Same with Shug and his runner. Not in love with that distance pedigree, and can excuse his last as not being the main goal. Nothing unusual in my thinking above.
Going to break my p3-p4 addiction to concentrate on win and tris throughout. Have no clue on the Oaks so far. Hope to put myself in the spot to aggressively shotgun the Derby tri with ALL on the bottom. If the Bafferts don't fill it,it will be huge.
Right now I like Game Winner best........

Could it be as simple as boxing the three Baffert runners?

I still have nightmares
about my Dallas experience, but I was traveling by bus.
Hostage. That's funny. Spider, take photos in Kentucky and I'll post them here @ UpInClass.

PS....I hope by now everyone has a good idea which direction they're going in (only thing left is the draw, track condition and formulating the tickets)

Since I have PP's for the Oaks I'll try to post my thoughts. I've been out the last few Saturdays so I haven't seen one prep race. I'm clueless.

OK, I'm going to key Game Winner in the tri. He's fast, consistent, and has won over the track. If he doesn't hit the board, I'm toast. With Roadster, Improbable, Omaha, and Tacitus +one more (WWW or Tax) in the tri. Now working on the super, where I would add Code of Honor. I don't know about value in a win bet. Will watch the odds. If there's an exacta to play it's probably GW, Omaha, Tacitus. p.s. If Croixboy is watching, we are heading to the USVIs tonight! Derby party at Skinny Legs in Coral Bay, St John. Be there! www.oldtimeradiodownloads.com/variety/damon-runyon-theater/all-horse-players-die-broke-1949-05-08Good luck to all!

His first back was a smasher that he'd have won in another stride vs the derby favorite. The Santa Anita derby was a workout that allowed roadster into the derby. While not the push button animal that omaha Beach is, game winner can clock off 12s in his sleep. The one thing about baffert is that the less he talks about a horse before a race the more likely that horse is sitting on go. whatismyipaddress.com/ip/107.77.94.112
