I've been waiting for Hoffa's Union to show up in an allowance race after he looked like Cigar in his debut at Laurel. His about a mile and a sixteenth was 2/5ths faster than a solid group of four year old colts and geldings in the race prior to his and that was a THREE other than allowance. Shocked to see the Wood. Not shocked that he was sold after his debut. Clearly, this is a tough group but he's far from a toss.

it looks like a rematch of the 2 & 10....and the 4 may catch them napping...of the horses that did NOT win last time out, it looks like the 10 will win this.. or 4 should do...the 11 looks very interesting in this race and need evaluation...

What's wrong with Tax? Good numbers and two good races over the track, including a stakes win. Is it his background as a claimer that accounts for the odds? He'll get a good trip. Plus, it's the season....

That story is 3 years old and the tax return is 5 years old. And Bernie is too old. What will we see first? 99-1 Health Care Plan 50-1 Gov't Shutdown 25-1 Closing Mexican Border 10-1 NO POLITICS 's Tax Returns 3-1 Tacitus Victory

Agree this one is likely a repeat of the Tampa Bay Derby but think Outshine gets the nod here. Also agree Hoffa’s Union is interesting to use given the apparent confidence of the conections taking a shot here.

...lol.....he should drop out and will be a scratch for sure...his owners have no real hope of winning but because of his past earning power for them they will enter him but really no one should bet on him....lol...a sucker bet except on how many voters actually bet on him....lol...

How about Not That Brady at 20/1? Toss last and he's right there with Tax. On the bottom is more likely, but on the ticket.

Tacitus is my Derby horse until proven otherwise. Final Jeopardy also looks live in here at a price. Steve

Tax is sneaky coming out of the Wood as a board hitting type in the Derby.
He has tactical speed, might not have been 100% coming off a two month gap and showed a nice turn move yesterday. Certainly bred for 10 furlongs top and bottom.

That wasn't an easy trip for Tacitus, making the win more impressive.

He was my pick yesterday and I was not disappointed with his race at all. I think he would have won if Junior would have waited another 16th before making his move. Maybe they learned something yesterday. Danny Gargan usually has his horses ready to go off short layoffs and wins at about a 25% rate with those. I've never thought of Arch as being a possible sire of a derby winner showing only 7 life time races with the biggest win being the Louisiana Derby but finishing last in the BC Classic. However, as Big as noted, Tax is bred for the distance on both sides, and as stated, I like the horse. I will be playing the Oaks-Derby double and he will be on the ticket if he's in the gate. While his current rider, Junior Alvarado, has won 20% of his rides this year and is very capable, I wouldn't mind seeing a proven derby rider on top. Junior's only Derby ride was Mohaymen in the 2016 Derby finishing 4th.

Bobtail
Arch won his La Super Derby at 10 furlongs and also sired Blame a BC Classic winner so he's capable on paper as a Derby sire. Tacitus was the better horse on Saturday.I think even if Junior waited it wouldn't have made a difference in the result.
It's possible Tax wasn't at peak off the 9 week layoff. If that's the case Gargan really threaded the needle having to finish 1-2 without gutting the horse. Looking at the 15 or so horses that are a lock on points Tax is a horse I won't be tossing from the underneath stuff. For one there is not a lot of pace type horses already in so his style would have him in the first half of the field. Also he's at least competitive on #'s.
Think he'd have to improve though to be a win contender.
