I notice he's been working bullets. That's not Shug's normal approach is it? If not, what's up?

Let's hear from the man himself....
TDN article:
For his part, McGaughey is brimming with confidence in his three-quarter length Fountain of Youth upsetter, who completed preparations for the Florida Derby with a half-mile bullet in :48 2/5 (1/12) Monday at Payson Park.
“I was very impressed with his race in the Fountain of Youth and I thought that he was kind of an easy winner,” McGaughey said. “He made the lead and started waiting on horses. He’s come out of it very well, he’s trained well at Payson Park since then, I was there [Monday] and liked his work, liked the way he looked and acted.”

GP website:
INDIANTOWN, FL – “All systems are go” with W.S. Farish’s Code of Honor, who breezed a half-mile in 48.40 seconds Monday morning here at Payson Park in preparation for a much-anticipated start in the $1 million Xpressbet.com Florida Derby (G1) Saturday at Gulfstream Park.
“He looked like he worked very well. I asked him for 49 and he worked 48 and 2 or so, so I think we’re in pretty good shape,” Hall of Fame trainer Shug McGaughey said.
Exercise rider Haladio Moreno was aboard for the breeze, which was the son of Noble Mission’s second since capturing the $400,000 Xpressbet.com Fountain of Youth (G2) March 2 at Gulfstream.
“He looks good and I think he’s been training very well. I think all systems are go with him right now,” he said.
Code of Honor disappointed in his 2019 debut in the Jan. 5 Mucho Macho Man, in which he finished an even fourth as the 4-5 favorite in the one-turn mile kickoff of Gulfstream’s tradition-rich 3-year-old stakes program. However, he redeemed himself in the 1 1/16-mile Fountain of Youth, in which he settled off a strong early pace before rallying through the stretch to score by three-quarters of a length over Bourbon War in his two-turn debut.
“He’s had a good winter since the first of January and I think he‘s looking forward to what he does,” McGaughey said. “I like what I saw physically today and in terms of how he worked.”

After the Mucho Macho Man dull effort Shug said he pushed on him harder in the AM not finding any physical excuse. He said he responded to the harder training and the FOY result proved he was right. What's interesting is after the race Johnny admitted he moved too soon.He said he felt the pressure from Global Campaign and knew that Bourbon War would be coming late as well.It did look like Bourbon War was getting to him but he never past him on the gallop out.In fact I thought it was impressive.I know some say the gallop out is overrated, but some look too good to ignore. The bummer is we won't see anything close to 9.5/1 this time

What’s up is that he’s a good horse! A legit Derby horse in my book. With Hidden Scroll ( I won’t belief that number he earned in the slop until he does it on a fast track), newcomer Maximum Security and Boubon War, all taking money maybe we can get 3-1. Probably 5-2. In retrospect, that almost 10-1 I got last time was a joke.
Only other horse I’m playing at Gulfstream is NEEPAWA in the 12th.
Good Luck Steve

He’s in my top 3 (Tacitus and Roadster also). Put some money on him at 20/1 in pool 4. Steve

another nice one... I can forget the last effort as prep for the trainer's main goal. A wet track work from on the rail--where he might be in the big field. He knows what he is doing and the colt seems to have talent on my list with Bafferts, Win x3 and Vekoma

As I see it, for Code Of Honor to have any chance Max Security will have to entice Omaha into a speed duel and pull a few others into it - like Toddy, Tax, Magician, Vekoma and possibly Improbable - assuming who makes the gate. I don't think that's going to happen. Note the Fla Derby - the Bris race shape numbers in the Fla Derby were -22 -24 - way too slow for a stayer. He won the FOY when the race shape numbers were +16 +10 and there wasn't much in the race save for Vekoma who did not appear to run his usual race compared to his runs in the Nashua and The Blue Grass. I don't think the Derby will be kind to stayers this year.
The usual caveat applies - "I could be wrong".
