elkurzhalHoping maybe we can get a story about the experience of competing in this major tournament. Eric Kurzhal (elk) finished 42nd on the board and I'd love to read more about your contest strategy. LIVE money tournaments are waaaaay out of my league. I'm more of a Pick & Pray contest player. The pressure of live tournament play is more than I can handle, both money wise and stress wise. Tell us, please... what's it like playing in the Big Games taking those Big Swings at BCBC? Cheers! www.dmtc.com/calendar/detail/bcbc-leaderboard

It was a fun run…
The basic rules, $7500 starting cash. have to bet a min $600 on 3 BC races Friday and 7 on Saturday, also have to bet a min of $7500 total.
I started with some small bets $40-100 a race on Friday. Missed the first few then hit $20 doubles from Chasing Liberty - Speedy Wilson - Magnum Force - Immersive. The last one may have been for $50.
Played some exactas and tris in those races too without hitting anything, but was at about $14000 and in 17th going into the last 3 races. I blanked from there including some big bets on Satono Carnaval, and ended the day with $10,000.
My Saturday started rough, planned some nights early plays, the first was a scratch in the 1st, then fluffy socks was hammered way down from the ml. I think I made some small bets and missed. Made $600 min bets or more and missed in the 4th 5th 7th 8th 9th. Bet the sprint pretty hard and was down to $2000 after making the bets. Played exotics, including a $300 8/8 double. Missed the exactas/tris, but the double was live for $25,200.
Made about $1000 worth of Ex/Tri bets on the turf mile that all missed, but More Than Looks came running to cash the big dub.
Took forever for the leaderboard to update, when it did with about 5 min to post for the dirt mile, I was in 17th. It was a long way to first, but I settled on taking a shot with $6200 and banking $20k. I didn’t win my way in this year and spent plenty trying, so I was more than happy to book a solid BC.
Bet the $6200, 1000 win 8 4000 ex 8 / 9 500 tri 8 / 1,9 / 1,9 200 tri 8 / 9 / 1
8 wins and I have a shot at the top 20, 8-9 was paying about $76k and probably a top 5 finish. 8-9-1 finish is paying close to $200k and first.
Then the race went Full Serrano on me…
It sure was a lot of fun, having a shot at cashing again, can’t wait to hopefully do it again next year.

Nice cashout Eric! Were you on-site, or can that contest be done remotely (bearing in mind the infamous Kinchen DQ at NHC)? Sounds like it was a rollercoaster, but you didn't lose your lunch. My decimal point was one or two spots to the left of your wagers, but I still feel the rush. Thanks for writing it up. TW

TW - The BCBC (unlike the NHC) is very friendly to playing online. I played from "home" this year. On Friday that was work and home. On Saturday it was from my daughters volleyball match, the grocery store, and the last 6-7 races from home. It really is nice to have the flexibility, but it's not great for being able to focus. There are a lot of perks to playing on site too. Tickets to the venue, comped food/beverage, comped food beverage if you are staying in one of the host hotels. Bus ride from the hotel to the track.
