I never watch these things but a friend called me and and told me to watch so I did. I never watch these things as I could care less about seeing talking heads telling me about horses but I was assured that was not going to happen so I pulled it up.
I already felt a certain way about Forever Young pre derby when he was walking along the rail, "connecting" with his fans, in the most charming way, what an amazing personality.
But now, seeing his color coordinated leg wraps, the way they put them to match up on his inside and outside legs when he walks, brilliant....
.and he has a Zenytatta like presence, the rider lets him stand out there and survey his surroundings, and he reminds me of Zen and Animal Kingdom, knows who he is when he steps out. And, he does EXACTLY what is asked of him.
I have always told friends that, regardless of what "we" think, that the horses know who they are....I have always felt that way and I don't think we can have more insight into them than they themselves have. Reminds me of Thoreau quote " What a man thinks of himself, that is which determines, or rather indicates his fate".........just change out the human for horse here.
Can you say picture perfect professional any better than this? Magnificent trainng job. His trainer, (and also Aiden Obrien the way he brings out his band.....2 utter geniuses IMHO.)
I don't even care if he wins or not, its has literally been an honor just to "meet him" and I'm so glad we got to see him come over here.
(its just that seeing him reminded me of how he was rooked out of 2nd place by a very poorly trained horse who can't even run straight, and my blood pressure goes up....)
At any rate made my day. My heart flutters rarely except for a few horses.

I was watching Rattle and Roll eat and lick the outsides of his stall walls, while Caton Breder stood outside his stall, he certainly didn't connect with her at all, maybe because she was not trying to connect with him either. Not much calming energies going on there.
Hey I call 'em like I see 'em.

I gotta say I experienced a real "cringe moment" watching the clip where the interviewer surprised Yahagi, one of the most revered trainers in Japan, by asking to buy his jacket off him, live on the air. Its was so ugly american in every way and so very inappropriate. Right live on air, you could see the surprise on Yahagi's face, but he handled it with aplomb, in the moment, polite as he is and so non-confrontational, throwing out a number, while the interviewer peeled off 150 bucks (and eventually did take the jacket from him). That was a jacket that was EARNED. By a venerated trainer who spent 50 years in the business and shipping to some of the most prestigious races on the planet. I would be embarrassed to wear that custom made jacket if I were not Yahagi himself. It would be like an interviewer talking to Criquette Head or Gai Waterhouse, asking during a trainer interview, to purchase their PRADA or GUCCI purse. Which now, actually would not suprise me. It really made me terribly embarrassed that some of these guys coud be so inappropriate and tone deaf to generally accepted social boundaries and just what is considered good taste in most places where at least a modicum of courtesy is expected. And they seemed to think it was "cool" like a bunch of college frat boys laughing over an Ebay auction win. The 2nd cringe moment was them bragging about how Baffert was so technologically advanced because "he uses walkie talkies and head lamps" on his riders............meanwhile when Mike de Kock came here, or went anywhere for that matter, had the most high tech saddlecloth equipment on his horses where he'd be several continents away and able to monitor the heart rate and blood oxygen levels of his horses during works......like apple watch technology before people here were even wearing apple watches. I laughed.

Noticeably washed out today for O'Brien were City of Troy #101, Diego Velazquez #452, and Heavens Gate #858. Watch them during the week.

A word from Charlie (I'll take a very close look at Star of Mystery and Cinderella's Dream from him) PS I thought the jacket thing was just a joke. He really walked away with it for $150 ? If so, it is in really bad taste. Another PS......if anything like the incident in the Derby happens I hope they do object this go around.

Saw forever young's work today, im hopelessly in love with this kind and able horse, cant fight it.
Too bad U,s. BC doesnt market plushies of the horse stars like japan, imagine the $$ that this would make for disabled jockey fund and horse rescue.
Truly a missed opportunity.
Other bright spots, the effervescent very loving guy Lee Vickers, asst trainer and exercise rider with Farbridge. Knowing this horse is truly loved as a being, very touching. Vickers has what I perceive as a "really good spirit on him". He radiates joy.
Also thrilled to see Billy Loughnanne (sp) coming over to ride 1 horse. I am a huge fan, loved him at ascot....
Aiden having lots of sheer bad luck so far with so many of his not going at all, then 1hooper mentioning how some look washed out, and then his disappointment being kept out of the melbourne cup. For all this, i do wish the very best for him going forward. Heartbreaking stuff ...
Eye, yes later you see Mr. Jerk did walk away with the jacket, blech. I also orig thought a joke, otherwise I wouldnt have mentioned it until i saw the denouement.....

Don't sleep on Big Evs in the Turf Sprint, even if you've already settled on Cogburn. He looked like he was in 'beast mode' galloping out there on the turf this morning. Notable Speech did a once-around also, under a good hold, but he opened up just a little down the lane and looked the part.

Camped out at the host Fairmont—-quiet morning, though it will get very interesting this evening—-entertainment being the Kings of Chaos(check out the revolving players!)— supposedly tonight’s front man being Sammy Hagar + Don Felder + guns and roses bass/drums—-imagine that!
I have an outside dinner to attend—hope to get back quickly Stay tuned……..
