“If it ain't broke, don't fix it” Like naming the Best Picture winner halfway through the Oscar show.

I understand your issues with this, but... Last year at Santa Anita, the Classic was race 9 of 11, post time 6:43pm ET. BC folks want it on NBC in Primetime (in the East) this year. Not unreasonable if you are trying to maximize eyeballs. Bettors will adjust. Are you really going to turn off your device right after the Classic, with four races left, and go rake leaves, without wagering? If you're going to watch the full card all-day, this shouldn't matter. If you can only spare a little time to watch selected race(s), I would think this should be helpful for many people. "...because we've always done it that way..." shouldn't automatically t/rump "...we're trying something different." Clearly I'm going to be in the minority on this, but innovation won't succeed where tradition stamps its feet. Be an iconoclast now and again. Also, get off my lawn... . TW

The reality though is that the ratings will be pretty low either way, college football is tough competition.

Who, other than the horse betting gambler, watches Breeder's Cup races other than the Classic?
Tom, point well made. To the horse betting gambler, At the end of the day, I doubt it would matter if the Classic was run first.

I always manage to make money on those "last races of the day after a big race" and get some of my wagers back. I also stay late at movies, and watch all the credits.
This doesn't bother me at all, theres a big time difference from East to West, prime time is a good time to have the Classic.

The $7,000,000 Classic should be the final BC race of the day. To run the two biggest races ($5,000,000 Turf) at 2:01 and 2:41 local time is insane. Does not put those 2 races close to prime time TV hours in any time zone.

I should have said "during prime TV coverage hours" as NBC drops out at 6:00pm ET. USA Network has the final two hours on Saturday. Not sure that the 'Chicago Fire' and 'Law & Oder SVU' crowd will switch over to watch horsies . I totally get the 'build up to the best race(s)' concept, you are absolutely correct. But if there is no room for flexibility, then the BC needs to negotiate that TV coverage deal based on the Classic being their top priority, bar none. Maybe they have too many BC races on the Saturday, move some of them back to Friday. The host track will want a say in how many races/when they are run, too. Depends on what audience you are trying to attract and please. Newbies, or core group. I think 'shoes probably has the best take on it. Saturdays in the fall belong to college football. TW

TW hit on something I been thinking for years, "Maybe they have too many BC races". The two days are bloated, I think a better product would be to cut back from 14 over two days to 10 races run on one day.

Not really crazy about this but won't lose any sleep over it. The Sprint will now be the last leg of the Pick 6, interesting. Speaking of which are we having an Upinclass Pick 6 group ticket?

Surprising, however the gambler in me really doesn’t care. Maybe the place will gradually clear out after the Classic. Maybe a huge west coast football matchup that afternoon or evening?
Just hoping for a nice week and 2 days out there……
Any uic presence? Dell working?
Bring it on!

Would not have this problem with an east coast BC, last one we had was 2007 Monmouth. Disgraceful.

Dell working?
If I can make it down to Del Mar, I will... dealing with a few health issues.

Stupidity compounded by stupidity. A) The BC doesn't belong at a bullring like Del Mar. B) The Turf and Classic shouldn't be races 4 and 5. That's like putting the Stones and the Beatles on stage ahead of Journey and ZZ Top.

That analogy brought it all home, Vagrant lol I will agree with you; though honestly, I don’t care. I will be there throughout eitherway
+ side of this is : Traffic out will be staggered—restaurants can maybe get two seatings

Good point about traffic and restaurants. The particulars don't really matter to me; I'll be watching & betting regardless. With NBC going whole hog on college football, we're probably stuck with this lineup now. It's just a shame how the event has devolved from its original form -- eight true championship races held on one day and rotating around the country. (Old man yells at cloud about the Golden Age.)
