Retired. There were a ton of rumors earlier in the week but it appeared to be put to rest on Thursday. Was just more BS for the fans. 200+ mares at Spendthrift next year.
Thursday. Trainer Danny Gargan said the Belmont Stakes (G1) and Haskell Stakes (G1) hero Dornoch is on track for a run Nov. 2 in the Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) at Del Mar. Dornoch has been in light training at Saratoga Race Course and has not returned to the work tab since his fourth-place finish in the Aug. 24 Travers Stakes (G1). "He's doing good, and we gave him some time off and are just starting back," Gargan said. "He'll work three times before the Classic. He's not a horse you have to train a ton and we're just giving him some time to get over it. It's a tough campaign to go through the Derby, Belmont, Haskell, Travers…he'll stay here (at Saratoga) to train."
Saturday. “Dornoch's performance in the Travers really wasn't what we expected, and we just have not been happy with the way he's trained since,” trainer Danny Gargan said.

Saturday. “Dornoch's performance in the Travers really wasn't what we expected, and we just have not been happy with the way he's trained since,” trainer Danny Gargan said. So, no point in giving the horse some time at the farm, to refresh, and run as a 4 year old. I understand it's a business. But 25 years ago, I was looking for a sport to follow. Not invest in a business. I get to be a fan of horses for, what?...6 months (late 2yo to 3yo), then they are retired. So, basically, a few months of TC prep season...then, so many are barely heard from again. And the ones who are, well, they will be retired 2 to 3 months before the end of their 3 year old life, having less thzn even a full 12 month long career. Maybe time for me to return to tennis.

Unfortunately when it involves a farm like Spendthrift or Coolmore, this is the new norm. It’s certainly why I invest less energy into following in recent years and I have to wonder, without building a fan base, once the slot subsidizes go away, what keeps the game afloat?

How long before they make the Muth announcement? Muth and National Treasure both got joint injections on Sunday after running in the California Crown S at SA on Saturday.
