Race 1 is a 2yo maiden at a mile (good-to-soft) with an absolutely loaded field of mostly first-time starters. #6- Seacruiser, a Sea The Stars colt from Kinross' owner Marc Chan, is from the Ralph Beckett yard. He was fourth on debut going a mile at Goodwood. Godolphin have two entries, Devil's Advocate (Too Darn Hot) for John & Thady Gosden, and Present Times (Sea The Stars) for Charlie Appleby. There's also a Pinatubo colt (James Owen), a Camelot (Andrew Balding), a Kodi Bear from Richard Hannon, and a Showcasing colt from Ed Dunlop. Safe to say that one or more future stakes winners may come out of this field. NEW R1 (8:35am ET)- 1m (Row) British EBF Maiden Stakes (Colts And Geldings) (Class 4) (2yo)www.racingpost.com/racecards/38/newmarket/2024-09-26/875759TW

Bonus race: PontefractGOING: Good-to-soft PON R3 (10:10am ET)- 1m2f (1m2f5y) Simon Scrope Dalby Screw-Driver Handicap (Class 3) (3yo+ 0-95)www.racingpost.com/racecards/46/pontefract/2024-09-26/875747Was looking forward to wagering on #8- Overture (5-2) which was bidding for five wins in a row for Sir Mark Prescott, but she was scratched. Would have toted a 6lb. penalty for her win at Yarmouth eight days ago, so maybe for the best. #2- Mr. Monaco (3-1) is a progressive 3yo for Ralph Beckett, gets his ground and distance, probably drops to even-money with the scratch. My 'underneath' selections have been outperforming my top picks lately, so #3- Loyal Touch (8-1) is considered for the win, dropping to easiest spot since May, gets 5lbs off with bug boy up, wouldn't mind additional showers. #4- Hosanna Power (6-1) is a lightly-raced 4yo Frankel gelding from soon-to-retire Sir Michael Stoute, finished behind Loyal Touch at Chester but still has room for improvement. #7- Lightening Company (10-1) would appreciate softer ground, has uber-fitness on his side after a win and a third over jumps at Cartmel this summer, has a C&D win last April. Also using highweight #1- Killybegs Warrior (12-1) underneath as he's too classy to leave out off of his current rating. EX- 3,7/1,2,3,4,7 Result: 3,2,1 Exacta $53.20 Loyal Touch ($23.80) just got his nose down on the line ahead of the big favorite (4-5), after a stretch-long battle. Nice ride by Archie Young.
The rest of the card at Pontefract had to be abandoned after jockey Duran Fentiman was unseated by a first-time starter just before the fourth race and broke his leg upon hitting the ground. It took a while to get him sorted and into the ambulance, and they were unable to arrange for another ambulance to get to the track in time to complete the races. Weather was crappy anyways, refunds were given, doubt anyone was bothered too much.TW

NewmarketGOING: Soft NEW R2 (8:50am ET)- 1m (Row) Royal Lodge Stakes (Group 2) (Colts & Geldings) (Class 1) (2yo)www.racingpost.com/racecards/38/newmarket/2024-09-28/873075#5- Puppet Master (9-2) won over soft ground at Galway going farther last time, looks the type. #7- Wimbledon Hawkeye (3-1) was just behind Lion In Winter last time, needs to handle the ground. EX- 5,7/3,4,5,6,7 Result: 7,6,1 Exacta $49.20 Wimbledon Hawkeye was always prominent, picked up readily coming out of the dip and won in style. Kameko colt out of a Sea The Stars mare, looking forward to this one for next year. Wonder if they are considering the BC Juv Turf?TW

NEW R3 (9:25am ET)- 6f (Row) Cheveley Park Stakes (Group 1) (Fillies) (Class 1) (2yo)www.racingpost.com/racecards/38/newmarket/2024-09-28/873074#2- Babouche (3-2) progressive Kodiac filly is bred to be a sprinter, unlike some of these. GI-winner must prove herself over soft ground, otherwise sets the standard. #4- Daylight (7-1) is my pick in here. Cotter ships from France with his progressive Earthlight filly, has only raced over soft in four starts, finished just behind Whistlejacket last time in GI, could surprise this group. Spreading underneath in case Daylight romps. EX- 2,4/2,3,4,5,6,8 NEW R4 (10:00am ET)- 6f (Row) Middle Park Stakes (Group 1) (Colts) (Class 1) (2yo)www.racingpost.com/racecards/38/newmarket/2024-09-28/873073#8- Whistlejacket (4-5) should boss these under Ryan Moore. No bets. TW

Aidan O'Brien filly Lake Victoria, by Frankel, humbles them to give the trainer his bajillionth win in the Cheveley Park Stakes. Took ALL the late money, the Irish lads must have brought bags full of cash. They knew. Now have an hour to try to make sense of the Cambridgeshire Handicap, with 31 runners going 9 furlongs. Hit the exacta and you can eat like Hoop tonight . TW
