Ushba Tesoro (4) was a late closing second, but Derma Sototake (7) faded to ninth.

Thanks for posting this Tom. That looked like a pretty good prep for Ushba Tesoro.

They should give that racecaller the job at Parx.

Thanks for posting this Tom. That looked like a pretty good prep for Ushba Tesoro. Tondemonai desu, 'shoes-san. Not sure if he'll be well-suited to the Del Mar oval, with his habit of starting slowly and trying to close from far back. TW

They should give that racecaller the job at Parx. She's not suited to the task. Even MadameBlum looked at me during the PA Derby card and shook her head. TW

Oops, you're correct, Derma Sotogake was fifth, not ninth. Neither will be in my wagers on the BC Classic, if they come. Ushba Tesoro often gets away from the gate poorly, and deep closers seldom make an impact at Del Mar. Derma Sotogake gave way too readily in that prep, I felt. He ran on well enough to get second in the Classic last year, but that was a less than stellar group that ran a final quarter-mile in (27:58). This year's contenders are more formidable IMO. Forever Young is still of interest, however, and I'll be watching his prep on Wednesday (Oct. 2nd). www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/articles/279946/japanese-bc-classic-hopefuls-come-up-short-in-prep-racewww.goracing.jp/english/upload/2024/33_japandirtclassic//2024_JAPANDIRTCLASSIC_RACECARD.pdfwww.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/articles/279775/forever-young-leads-field-for-japan-dirt-classicTW
