Beautiful horse, but 5 mil ? horse-races.net/library/derby-auctionprices.htmAs you can see, a high price at auction doesn't guarantee a good finish much less a win in the Kentucky Derby, but TWO Triple Crown winners were bought for low prices at auction. $1 million or more horses have fared particularly badly, with only one win (Fusaich Pegasus) and one second (Lion Heart) from 20 horses.

I think the historical stats are horses $500K or so do best in TC races. But of course the economy changes over the years, plus hard to create a stat on smaller sample sizes involving horses over $1 million since there have not been a whole lot of them.
Tapit Trice comes to mind.....hasn't been a world beater.....but I have a penchant for those "big body Benz" type horses, who are like immovable objects once they get going, so.......
