Here is a UIC First!

Haven’t posted about our daughter Katie in quite a while so I will try and catch you up…….

She still has her two off track thoroughbreds, Rincon and Tiz A Cyclone. The boys are 11 and 12 now and are enjoying retirement while putting up with the occasional ride.

Katie met a very nice guy a couple of years ago and the good news is that he is into horses too. The bad (not really) news is that he is a standardbred trainer! The two of them are living in Alberta chasing their dreams in the jiggly jogger world. Last week they announced their engagement and we couldn’t be happier.

Anyway on to the UIC first…Kevin and Katie have two Manitoba bred 2 year olds that they sent home to contest the $10,500 Kindergarten Stakes this past Saturday. Mrs. Mac and I (along with our 2 year old grand-niece Mia) were on hand to support the 2 entrants, Shady Roan and Wood Morning (don’t ask me who approves standardbred names) as they went for the big money. Here is the race.

That's great! First and second in the stakes. I saw a driver hustling back towards the finish line after the race, and realized that it was Clayton, who rode/trained the 1 and trained the winner too. We can see you and MrsMac, and Mia, sliding into the winners circle photo right at the end of the video. Congratulations to all the connections, especially the happy couple!

Congratulations to Katie and Kevin and the whole Mac family. Nice job with the racers as well. I think Katie's pacer could have rated 1:05 to the half and still had everyone gapping. Not sure how The Loop survives with purses of over 71,000 and a handle of $3,398 for the 10 race card.

The Loop exists because of the strange way that Canadian tracks allocate their simulcast and VLT/casino revenue. It is a very interesting debate about where the handouts should go but the horsemen can present a strong case for all of the ancillary agriculture jobs (feed, vets, grooms etc.) that racing supports. Not sure how sustainable the model is.
