Watched the replay several times.
How come the 1 horse did not go by the 2 horse a few yards from the wire to win the race?

It looked to me like Shawn's horse lugged in too much to the left while he was closing so quickly. He tried to correct him but he wasn't able to because he didn't have room. He had to stop "asking him" or they would have collided. He was much the best and should have gone by. Too bad for him and Melanie and the owners. They have had a GREAT meet though.

Watching the head on, madameblum is correct
"It looked to me like Shawn's horse lugged in too much to the left while he was closing so quickly. He tried to correct him but he wasn't able to because he didn't have room."
Also maybe something else ?
Hisa rule on the whip..... The crop can be used during a race or workout: | On the horse’s hindquarters no more than 6 times & in increments of no more than 2 strikes before allowing horse to respond for at least 2 strides
The jock whipped the horse the allowed 6 times...,looked like he was going for the 7th, then hesitated.
PS...whip rule needs to be addressed, doesn't work as it is.

I was watching the race live as I’m sure many of you were and I was sure that he was going to win. Certainly if this happened in other jurisdictions the jockey would be called by the stewards to explain his actions (or in this case inactions )
