2 questions about the Hurdles 8/14

1) What exactly is a false start and what causes it?
2) I was waiting for replay but still could not see which horse #s were on the outside once the race started again, they looked like they were going to have a full on biting/boxing match, like they were really about to go after each other? Which horses were they? I was yelling into the air in my living room "get them away from each other!"
Amazing run by Jimmy P who ran 2nd in this same event last year. Won by about 20 lengths, I'd say he is the real deal. I think the announcer said the way he separated himself out in the final F was "like he was shot out of a cannon". Congrats to Keri Brion for an amazing training job with this horse.
A perplexling but exciting race for sure.
