I am on the recall lists for "high level alert" items.
Listeriosis, Salmonella, and e-coli alerts. Last few months there have been (far too) many.
Cucumbers almost got me (i eat a lot of cucumbers). That recall was very wide in terms of distribution points. Then, there was cream cheese, other cheeses, several bagged salad greens, ice creams, deli meats, salsa and guacamole.
Been a tough year for food borne illnesses. Better regulation costs $ and there has to be more inspectors.
Did ya'll know that in Japan, they have such good control over eggs, that you can put a raw egg into your smoothie and not even have to worry about it?
(I would never do that here. EVER.)
Would be a shame to die or be hospitalized for a food-borne illness. These are a very real hazard for older people especially.
PSA: 1) Wash everything. (Make a weak hydrochloic acid slution with just some salt + Vinegar). 2) cook that which can be cooked. 3) make stuff from scratch and don't buy pre-made and processed. I am a home cook and cook for many friends and neighbors.
Not saying be fearful. Saying be aware and do your due dilligence.
