O Canada! The Canadian Olympic Committee announced Thursday that it made the decision to dismiss women's national soccer team coach Bev Priestman from the Olympic squad. Priestman's dismissal comes on the heels of the ongoing scandal surrounding the use of drones to spy on opponents from both the Canadian men's and women's squads. A report from TSN on Thursday states that Canada has used drones for illegal espionage of opponents "for years," including ahead of their run to Olympic gold at the 2020 Games in Tokyo. Have really been enjoying the swimming, some really close races especially for 2nd and 3rd in some cases.

Fencing is pretty cool, I always wanted to do it as a kid (probably the Zorro Influence). US women lost a tough one in regular volleyball to China. I have two granddaughters that play that.

What an amazing athlete Katie Ledecki is. Her 8th gold, 12th medal she would likely have had 2 more golds if the 1500 had been added earlier as an event. She now has the 20 fastest women's 1500 races in history.

Local Kid Jordan Crooks ( currently at U Tennessee) had the best start in the 100m free but faded to 7th in the semi final. Goes after the 50 m free next. . We're hoping for him to make the final . I think he can medal.This is his best event .  |

How many of you watched the male transgendered to female defeat the Italian female boxer this morning? Was not sanctioned to box as a female in any other jurisdiction.
As NO POLITICS-Harris now changed Title IX to be based on gender preference vs biological being. Maybe when it moves to basketball and soccer people will take more notice?

Cayman has a finalist for the first time ever. Jordan Crooks won his heat in the 50m freestyle semis and made it to the final with the 4th fastest time . We don't normally have much to celebrate at the Olympics but this young man has the country buzzing !

I thought the "wearers of glasses" was an interesting detail that only an opthalmolgist would notice. The Bespectacled Olympic Gymnast is good and I love Dr. G anyway (he's a great standup comedian as well). He was ecstatic about olympians who are glasses wearers. Something I never gave a lot of thought to.
I remember kids who wore glasses were often bullied during elementary school and beyond, and thus often discouraged about participating in sports, let alone reaching the pinnacle of accomplishment in a sport.
And as one commenter also noticed, an irish swimmer won a gold medal and wore glasses on the podium as well (Daniel Wiffin) :
