Snowstorm bearing down on the northeastern US, with 8-14 inches forecast locally. Playing these races early before the shoveling takes precedence. Also hoping that the rain stays away from Gulfstream Park and they can run on the turf. Not confident that Fairgrounds will be on the grass either (UPDATE: Off the turf @ FG.)
KEM R4 (1:45pm ET)- 1m Handicap (London Mile Series Qualifier) (Class 3) (4yo+ 0-95)

#2- Top Secret (2-1) won easily off a September layoff over C&D two weeks ago against several of these opponents. Picks up six pounds, adds blinkers, could win again but would need to improve off that effort. Best alternative seems to be #3- Court of Session (4-1) off a mile AW win at Chelmsford last month. Cozy inside draw in PP2, perhaps he can grind out one more in his current form.
EX- 2,3/1,2,3,4 Result: 4,1,8 Closers filled the money positions, with Talis Evolvere ($9.80) turning the tables on Top Secret with a five pound shift in the weights.
AQU R8 (3:47pm ET)- Ladies S. Purse $150,000. One And One Eighth Miles. For Fillies And Mares 4yo+

#5- Comparative (7-2) looks like the right one, for Godolphin/Cox under Manny Franco. Full sister to Godolphin's GIII-winner Shared Sense took a while to come around as a youngster, but took a two-race winning streak into the Black Eyed Susan (GII) where she had a tough trip and went to the sidelines thereafter. Facile comeback win here at a mile in November, pointing for this black-type today. Bullet work showing, maybe all the pieces have finally come together for this one. Hoping to stay at 3-1 or better.
WIN- 5 Result: 5,6,2 Win $31.00 Comparative ($6.20) looked beat at the top of the stretch, but Saddle Up Jessie tired at the eighth pole and gave the win back to the Godolphin runner. Slow, tiring track today.
GP R9 (4:06pm ET)- Ginger Brew S. Purse $125,000. One Mile. (Turf) Fillies, 3yo

Not going to put too much effort into the two GP races as the rain is getting closer and they may get taken off the turf. Course-winner #4- Ozara (5-2) and the improving #6- Waskesiu (8-1) over three longer shots. {redboard: added #12- Life's An Audible underneath, with the two scratches inside of her}
EX- 4,6/4,5,6,8,9,12 Result: 4,12,6 Exacta $35.80 Patient ground-saving ride by Tyler Gaffalione on Ozara ($8.00) was the difference, he dove to the rail in the stretch and held them all safe.
GP R11 (5:05pm ET)- Dania Beach S. Purse $125,000. One Mile. (Turf) 3yo

I see Wathnan Racing's reach has gotten as far as America now, with #8- Edgartown (15-1) purchased privately after his CD win and turned over to Graham Motion. Oisin Murphy takes the call, he's done well over here. Using with obvious Pletcher favorite #10- Agate Road (8-5) and Shug's #9- Frontline Warrior (15-1). Four early scratches, so those m/l prices are coming way down.
EXBOX- 8,9,10 Result: 4,10,3 Tocayo ($29.80), lone speed on paper, had a length lead after a half in 50.08 over firm ground (rains did not arrive). Call the cops, 211 in progress. He sprinted home in 46.29 for the upset.
FG R9 (5:45pm ET)- Nelson J. Menard Memorial S. Purse $100,000. About Five And One Half Furlongs. (moved to dirt) For Fillies And Mares 4yo+

#5- Oeuvre (7-2) sprints like a work of art, dirt or turf. 3-for-3 at FG, including this event last year on grass.
EX- 5/3,4,6 Result: 5,6,3 Exacta $75.80 Oeuvre ($3.80) had to work hard but gradually ran down 36-1 pacesetter Sweet Temperament, which held on for second and an overlay exacta. Booyah!
SA R9 (7:13pm ET)- AOCLM $50,000 N1X Purse $67,000. One And One Eighth Miles. (Turf) 4yo+

#6- Percolate (8-1) connections dare you to claim him, having won a similar race at DMR in November. #7- Maltese Falcon (8-1) will be stooping from the clouds late under Rosario, more likely the runner-up than Best Picture. #8- Reckless Spirit (6-1) may also have too much to do late, but Frankie is riding in good form and nearly got him home here at a mile last February. #5- Irish Prophet (6-1) has some speed, slowly improved as a 4yo, needs to take another step forward today.
EXBOX- 5,7,8 Result: 5,7,10 Exacta $65.40 Irish Prophet ($12.80) sat a nice stalking trip in third, had to come a bit wide into the stretch but showed a good turn of foot to outfinish Maltese Falcon, which benefitted from a rail-skimming ride by Rosario, making the lead mid-stretch but giving way late.
Wagered: $72.00 Returned: $208.00 Profit: $136.00
Great day at the windows, going four-of-six including two nice exactas. Starting out 2024 on a high note, even winning two dirt races 🤯. Probably keep the powder dry until the Lecomte Stakes card at FG on Jan. 20th. Pegasus card at GP is on Jan. 27th.
