I've lived in Arkansas for 20+ years now. The entire time, (until I moved to Garland Country), I lived in counties that were "dry".
Arkanasas is as red as you can get, politically.
In the counties I haved lived in, 90% have been dry for all of history. There were liquor licenses, so they weren't "technically" dry. (Most dry counties aren't really dry because there ARE licenses, but nobody could get them.)
It's because the churches bought up all the licenses and would not let them go.
As a matter of fact, POLK COUNTY just went un-dry for the first time in history...people there voted on it. It completely changed the landscape of the towns there, now that people can stop at general stores and buy beer and alcohol. (however, there is still quite a lot of unhappiness over the fact that this happened, the church groups have brought a lot of pressure to bear.)
I know a lot about this issue since I had to vote on it, several times, and did my research.
Any President, red or blue, has nothing to do with these laws at the county level. And as we know, states and counties can often make their own rules.
FOx is rustling bushes that have no leaves in this case.

it is different in texas where it costs big bucks to get a license.if the tabc gets involved you might pay 35k or more to get a license to sell

it is different in texas where it costs big bucks to get a license.if the tabc gets involved you might pay 35k or more to get a license to sell Before liquor licenses can even be discussed (there were just "private clubs" like at the Elks and such) just "getting your county to go wet" was almost impossible. I watched it for 20 years. You needed a certain % of the county to vote it wet and most places couldn't get that % because neighboring counties that were already wet made sure you couldn't so they wouldn't lose business, and many evangelicals fought it based on the morality issue. I can't imagine 2 forces stronger than "pocketbooks" (everywhere) and "morality" (many places in the Bible Belt). Check out the map of U.S........see the red? This was in 2012. Highest concentration was in Arkansas, and that means DRY counties. The most in the entire country. It does look better now though. But you can see we were the "hold outs". Blue is wet, yellow is moist i.e. semi-dry counties (mixed according to city or alcohol type) Thankfully we do have.......gambling.
