Wednesday
Disappointingly small fields for the Stakes races, especially the Juddmonte with only four runners. But if those four runners are Paddington, Mostahdaf, Nashwa, and The Foxes, I'll forgive them . Pro tip: watch the stakes, bet the handicaps. York- GOING: GOOD, Good to firm in places (GoingStick: 6.8) (Rail movements: 3.00, 3.35 & 4.10 +32yds) (Showers)
STALLS 5f, 5f89y, 6f & 1m4f - Centre; Remainder - Inside TW

York- Wednesday- Good-to-firm YOR R1 (8:50am ET)- 5½f (5f89y) Symphony Group Handicap (Heritage Handicap) (Class 2) (3yo+)www.racingpost.com/racecards/107/york/2023-08-23/845921 #3- Intrinsic Bond (8-1) is coming in off two fine runs at Ascot over similar ground & company since changing yards to Michael Wigham. Official rating didn't change following last effort, so maybe he has a few pounds in hand? Also noting the presence of Oisin Murphy in the saddle today. #10- Jm Jungle (7-1) drew very high in PP19 but enters this in tremendous form, 3yo moves up in class, deserves his shot against these. EX- 3,10/1,2,3,10,14 YOR R2 (9:25am ET)- 7f Acomb Stakes (Group 3) (Class 1) (2yo)www.racingpost.com/racecards/107/york/2023-08-23/845920Lots of talk surrounding #1- Ballymount Boy (2-1), the most recent acquisition by Wathnan Racing (link), after his second behind recent Prix Morny (GI) winner Vandeek. Certainly looks the progressive type and should handle the stepout to 7F. #4- Hot Fuss (7-1) could offer value underneath off his half-length defeat in the Chesham over good ground at Royal Ascot. EX- 1/2,4,6 YOR R3 (10:00am ET)- 1m4f (1m3f188y) Great Voltigeur Stakes (Group 2) (Colts & Geldings) (Class 1) (3yo)www.racingpost.com/racecards/107/york/2023-08-23/843301 #1- Gregory (Even) is the Gosdens' choice for a St. Leger runner (future entry), but hasn't seen a racecourse since Royal Ascot, and drops back in trip today with Frankie aboard. Could be vulnerable to tactics, but the stretch is very long at York. Doesn't have to win this though, with #5- Continuous (3-1) the main threat under Ryan Moore. Also absent since fine second to King of Steel in the King Edward (GII) at Royal Ascot. Rider might try to win it from the front. #4- Castle Way (3-1) has been a bright spot for Godolphin in a fairly lost 2023, slowly improving but may only secure a lesser award. EX- 1,5/1,4,5 (if you have to bet, no money in this.) YOR R4 (10:35am ET)- 1m2½f (1m2f56y) Juddmonte International Stakes (British Champions Series) (Group 1) (Class 1) (3yo+)www.racingpost.com/racecards/107/york/2023-08-23/843302 #3- Paddington (2-5) gets 7lbs from #1- Mostahdaf (5-2), will need every one if the latter runs back to his dominant Prince of Wales' (GI) win. Moore will likely go right to the lead here, hoping for a procession all the way 'round. Last Juddmonte for Frankie, so he'll go out on his shield if he has to. Watch it for the spectacle, hopefully. No bets. YOR R5 (11:10am ET)- 2m½f (2m56y) Stayers Handicap (Heritage Handicap) (Class 2) (3yo+)www.racingpost.com/racecards/107/york/2023-08-23/845922Good betting affair, with fourteen runners scheduled to go to post. #3- Aztec Empire (5-1) seems to have turned a corner for Andrew Balding this summer, 4yo son of Sea The Stars may still have some improvement forthcoming. Third to current Ebor good thing Sweet William at Newbury last time. #10- Robert Johnson (5-1) has been ultra-consistent this season, his smashing victory here in the John Smith's two-miler points him out. EX- 3,10/1,3,9,10,13 YOR R6 (11:45am ET)- 5f Fillies' Handicap (Heritage Handicap) (Class 2) (3yo+ 0-105)www.racingpost.com/racecards/107/york/2023-08-23/845923Varying amounts of form on display here, easy to get it wrong. #5- Marine Wave (8-1) won an AW Listed race going 5F as a 2yo, and was second in the Land O' Burns S. (Listed) on good ground at 5F in Ayr two back. Should appreciate the drop in class and return to preferred distance today for Fahey/Oisin Orr. #7- Pillow Talk (8-1) won the Marygate S. (Listed) here as a 2yo, and finished second on seasonal debut in the Westow S. (Listed) over C&D. Just missed behind Copper Knight last time in first try against older. Flying under the radar a little bit for Burke/Tudhope, I think. EX- 5,7/2,3,5,7,8,9 YOR R7 (12:20pm ET)- 6f Nursery Handicap (Class 2) (2yo)www.racingpost.com/racecards/107/york/2023-08-23/845924Field of eighteen 2yo down the straight 6F course. Remains to be seen if there is a draw bias, may have to watch earlier sprints and call an audible. #3- Starlust (5-1) has been progressive through four starts, beat all but one in a similar event at Goodwood last time. Beckett yard is on a good run, and the jockey booking of Ryan Moore raises more than one eyebrow. #8- Blue Prince (5-1) son of Blue Point has been similarly progressive in four tries, impressive C&D win at the end of July. Gets Tom Marquand aboard, but drew high in PP 16 (two scratches). EX- 3,8/1,2,3,6,8,17 Good luck if you play, and you should! TW

The interviews at the European racing are so much more entertaining than US racing . Trainers , jockeys and owners are very forthcoming. Nice to see a £6k foal winning the big 2yo race . Hopefully the breeder will reap benefit from the sale of his next foal.

What a fantastic race. Nobody predicted that Frankie would take Mostahdaf to the front . Great run by Nashwa and Paddington lost nothing in defeat .

Great strategy, and ride, by Dettori on Mostahdaf! Took four lengths from the rest of them blasting away from the gate. Filled the horse up briefly on the turn in, then ran full tilt to the line. Paddington hasn’t proven himself at 10F yet, despite his Eclipse win. He’ll be back for more. How about Nashwa running right through the wire to grab the place for Holly Doyle?! Frankie had to lean left at the furling pole just to tighten up any rail challenges, but she wasn’t ever going to get there in time. Never seen someone so happy to finish second. As good of a four horse race as you’ll see.

Frankie is riding as good as he ever has . It’s nice to go out at the top but will he regret it ?

Frankie is riding as good as he ever has . It’s nice to go out at the top but will he regret it ? He will definitely be missed. Was thinking he should do like the older tennis players and still do a few of the big meets .
