They moved the last 3 turf races to the main track today. I don’t know if if it was related to the fall earlier when another horse had to be euthanized after a fall. My sister and niece have been attending regularly and said that they noticed horses tripping and stumbling in the stretch in the past week.

“NYRA moved the final three turf races (7,9,10) of Sunday's card to the main track in consultation with the jockeys, who expressed concern with the overall condition of the courses following heavy rains throughout last week,” said Patrick McKenna, vice president of communications for NYRA. “NYRA will be evaluating both turf courses over the next two days and will adjust the temporary rail positions for Wednesday's live racing program.”

It's waterlogged. Give a squirrel a nut and it will come right back.

too long, didn't read:
I don't have equipment to roll, aerate, and irrigate my property, nor do I have a crew to walk the course after each race to do 'divot repair' like NYRA does. I do have a grass lawn, a garden, and a weather station here. I'm half-an-hour away from Saratoga, unless I'm speeding. This much, I can tell you: for the month of May, and the first 23 days of June, we had only two inches of rain, which is less than a third of normal. The ground was as hard as a rock as it baked in the sun day after day. The last week of June had 2 inches of rain, and July was the wettest one ever since records were kept, with almost 11 inches of precipitation. When it rained heavily, which was often, the water didn't get absorbed quickly. We had standing puddles in every low spot that lasted until the next rain. The grass is growing vigorously, but the soil underneath is...lumpy is the best way to describe it. If the turf courses at Saratoga are in a similar way, and I have no way of knowing, that would be problematic.
Some grass horses just glide over the top of the ground, even soft ground, because of their biomechanics. Some 'heavy' horses hit the ground hard and are at the mercy of the conditions underfoot.
I've been watching the turf races carefully since opening day, when the course was mis-labeled as firm. I did see horses stumble a few times last week, and a couple jumped 'rills' across the homestretch around the eighth pole. The past week was very odd. I could see dirt flying up behind, not quite like a 'dusty', dry course, but still suggesting that. But at the same time there were large clods of sod flying every which way, like you see on soft ground. At the very least, the conditions are atypical. They need to get a handle on it over the next two days, before racing resumes Wednesday.

NYRA may be the most haphazard seat of the pants racing operating organization that I have ever experienced.
Yesterday’s last-minute off turf decision caught me off guard to say the least since I wagered the late races halfway thru the day
And probably more wet weather headed that way……
