Short field of six in the Gi Nassau Stakes, but quality over quantity as 4yo Nashwa, under Hollie Doyle, takes on dual-French Classic winning 3yo Blue Rose Cen.
Goodwood
GOING: Soft
GOO R2 (9:25am ET)- 6f Richmond Stakes (Group 2) (Colts & Geldings) (IRE Incentive Race) (Class 1) (2yo)
www.racingpost.com/racecards/21/goodwood/2023-08-03/844932
#8- Sketch (8-1) won on debut in a novice race at Newbury for the Meade yard, got a strong performance number, soft ground is an unknown. #11- Vandeek (5-1) also won his only start, on soft going at Nottingham two weeks ago, bred to be an out-and-out sprinter.
EX- 8,11/4,8,9,11
GOO R3 (10:00am ET)- 1m4f (1m3f218y) Gordon Stakes (Group 3) (Class 1) (3yo)
www.racingpost.com/racecards/21/goodwood/2023-08-03/844931
#1- Artistic Star (9-2) is a different horse on soft ground, and also when he isn't facing Auguste Rodin and King of Steel. #4- Chesspiece (3-1) is a Godolphin runner from the Crisfords/James Doyle, progressive colt with three wins in five outings, handles soft ground.
EX- 1,4/1,3,4,5,6
GOO R4 (10:35am ET)- 1m2f (1m1f197y) Nassau Stakes (Group 1) (Fillies & Mares) (British Champions Series) (Class 1) (3yo+)
www.racingpost.com/racecards/21/goodwood/2023-08-03/843296
As much as I like Nashwa, the Gosdens, and Hollie Doyle, #4- Blue Rose Cen (even) is the best 3yo filly around, bar none. She gets 8lbs from her elders to boot, loves this ground, and dominated over a similar distance last time in the Prix de Diane.
TRI- 4/1,2,3/ALL
Bonus Race-
Galway
GOING: Yielding
GAL R4 (10:55am ET)- 7f Irish EBF Corrib Fillies Stakes (Listed Race) (Fillies & Mares) (3yo+)
www.racingpost.com/racecards/183/galway/2023-08-03/846462
Surprisingly (or maybe not, it IS the Galway Festival) competitive Listed event for F&M going seven. Could not separate the top three. #1- All Lies Ahead (15-1) wants soft ground and gets it, Willie McCreery is going well and at the price, if it holds, is a separate win bet. #6- Dandy Alys (3-1) 3yo filly gets 6lbs from her elders, has only the maiden win but has kept top company, might be sitting on go for Ralph Beckett. #8- Keep In Touch (7-2) 3yo filly has a win and a third in two tries here. Dermot Weld tried her going long in two races this year but she failed in both, now turns back to 7F where she has gone well.
