We're going on the Breakfast/Farm Tour at Saratoga tomorrow morning (Song Hill Thoroughbreds//James Bond 007) so not much time to handicap.
Goodwood- GOING: Good-to-soft, but heavy rain in the forecast.
GOO R1 (8:50am ET)- 1m4f (1m3f218y) Coral Handicap (Class 2) (3yo 0-105)
www.racingpost.com/racecards/21/goodwood/2023-08-02/844927
#3- Westerton (6-1) has been progressive, if nibbling around the edges, Ryan Moore sticks and he may relish the stretchout. #6- Amleto (4-1) is a lightly-raced Sea The Stars gelding for William Haggas/Sunderland Holdings, crushed maidens at Chester in May, seems like a patient steppingstone going forward.
EX- 3,6/2,3,5,6
GOO R2 (9:25am ET)- 7f Oak Tree Stakes (Group 3) (Class 1) (3yo+)
www.racingpost.com/racecards/21/goodwood/2023-08-02/844925
Good betting affair, 3up F&M going 7F on soft. #2- Fast Response (9-2) clearly wants soft ground, just missed going seven panels last time, should equal or improve on that run. #8- Breege (7-1) is the bet of the day. 3yo filly hasn't run a bad one yet against a panoply of stars, handles soft ground and just needs some pace to run into.
EX- 2,8/2,7,8,9,10
GOO R4 (10:35am ET)- 1m Sussex Stakes (Group 1) (British Champions Series) (Class 1) (3yo+)
www.racingpost.com/racecards/21/goodwood/2023-08-02/840964
Not much time to handicap, but #1- Aldaary (12-1) definitely wants soft ground, is not a straightforward ride with quirks, but at the price you have to include. #3- Facteur Cheval (20-1) also has the M/L maker smoking ganja, gelding loves deep ground, trainer Reynier was bullish about his chances on the Nick Luck podcast recently. Top spot would be an overreach perhaps, but still a must use given the conditions. #4-Inspiral (7-2) and Frankie should be at the top of the market, absent Paddington, but you could make the argument that she's better on good ground. #6- Paddington (2-5) is 6-for-7, hard to believe he lost his debut, handles all ground, just won one of better Eclipse S. (GI) in recent memory over Emily Upjohn. Oh yeah, gets 7lbs from his elders. Likes to race forwardly. Chink in the armor, anyone?
TRI- 6/1,3,4/ALL
Good luck if you bet, and you should.
