I used to go to these pretty religiously since part of my family lives in WI. I missed going this year. Here are some highlights---EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2023 Even if you aren't an aviation fan, the guy with the jet packs was pretty amazing!! My brothers went w/out me, and said that for some of the jet stuff they have to use some ear protection.

Locally the Quonset Point Air Show was held for decades. Always featured the Blue Angels. Had fun watching them practice in the days leading up to the shows as my parents had a home in town. Caught the Florida Air show a couple of times in Punta Gorda during winter vacations, I think the Thunderbirds were the headliners.

Can’t recall when and why they stopped them…..

Pretty sure the Oshkosh EAA AirVenture is the largest air show in the USA......actually, pretty sure it's the largest in the world?
People do fly in from all over the planet since there are over 10,000 aircraft in attendance everything from warbirds, home-built aircraft, ultralights, veteran aircraft, sports planes and vintage planes.
Last year they got 650,000 spectators.....they usually get about 500,000++ so pretty sure it's the largest in the world.
This year they also had F-15s, a C-17 flying hospital, a V-22 Osprey, and a C-130.
for the size of it, its very well organized. you can take a shuttle bus in from just about anywhere, there are tons of points to just park your car .... and there are at least 5,000 volunteers. They even have camping for more than 12,000 sites in aircraft and drive-in camping ..... probably good for about 4,000 people right there.

one of my brothers is both a pilot (commercial/recreational/charter) and was a design engineer for many of the satellites we send up, as well as Space Station Freedom. I guess my fascination is that people did design all these things....every single minute detail. I am envious that he sat with astronauts, one-on-one, while designing: "does this door handle work for you? What would make it better? How can we help make your work safer and easier?" all the aviation engineers i know are ..workaholics. So I grew up around aviation but for myself I'm not really an aviation *fan* like many are. I just pay homage to those who are. Instead, I got the horse racing bug. So I am answering questions about that, and asking about the airplane stuff, all the time.
