I worked opening day at Del Mar and though I was assigned the 4th floor, it turned out to be a pretty good window. I enjoy guiding the newcomers through the experience, but I had a couple of really good players in my section. Strong, smart players. Confident. I was impressed.
Each teller begins the day with $880, but on big days I draw an extra two grand. That usually covers the day. After a few races there's much more $$$ than that in the till. One of my impressive gentleman gamblers played Pick 3 and Pick 4s. Horizontals. Doubles and such. After the fourth race I called for another $2,000. My bettor had hit me for over $4,000! He was good and I told him so.
Late in the card I had to call the money room to have another 10 grand brought to my window. Folks in my section were cashing a lot of tickets. (always good for the teller)
The fellow who impressed me most was a show bettor. He laid down $300 to show two races in a row. He didn't cash the first one. but he came back with that second 300 to Show winning ticket, and he let $680 bucks ride...
I didn't see him for the next race. I figured he probably lost. He showed up and had me run the ticket ... $1,360 ... he gave me a number for the next race and he let it roll. Cashed for over 6,700!!
The players at bad's window had a good day. 🐴🙂

That’s an excellent story… Did you invite them to the forum or is that against the rules ?

That's great Dell, it must be exciting when you get to cash out a big ticket. Hopefully you left with a fuller wallet as well.
