I make no apologies for always being a "safety first" person. Wildfires are expected to continue to burn in CAN for most of the summer.
On any given day, nobody knows in advance if you will run into a day where the air quality isn't good. All it takes is one day of breathing particulate matter, esp. if you have compromised lungs to begin with, because even if the next day is great, you may not end up feeling as energetic or vibrant, ready to take on the day, if you spent the day before breathing bad air quality.
So, pack a few face masks in your luggage.
It would be pretty inconvenient to be stuck in a smallish town and not be able to buy something this simple because they are sold out. (just went thru this after our hail storm, you couldn't buy a tarp w/in 35 miles of here due to so many broken sunroofs, windshields, etc.)
If you want a certain color, just google (color) like this "purple face mask" and there are even tons of whatever color you want at walmart, amazon, etc. that you could probably receive in time for your SAR vacation.
Have fun, be safe and comfortable.
