R5- 1m6f (Inner) Barry Hills Further Flight Stakes (Listed Race) (Class 1) (4yo+)
Long-distance Champion, Trueshan makes his seasonal debut today. Gets his soft ground, Hollie Doyle aboard, already scared off two of six rivals (scratched.) Nicky Henderson’s sometimes-hurdler Buzz won the Cesarewitch in 2021 going 18F on the flat, didn’t race in 2022 but gets Ryan Moore and will make the top one earn it. Not much of a betting affair, but good sport nonetheless. Post time 10:55am ET.

I watched it live, and then the replay again just now. Trueshan was keen early, tossing his head around but he does that, and Hollie got him to switch off and sat about four lengths behind a soft pace. I think it was a combination of Trueshan not being as sharp for his debut as last year, and Rajinsky having improved again from his top-level handicap form last year. Nobody ever laid a glove on Rajinsky and he had just enough left to hold off the big favorite. Tashkhan ran a very good race, he stayed on better than any of them, so you could argue that both of the top two ran a little "short" after that unexpected two-furlong battle in the stretch. www.racingpost.com/profile/horse/2120375/rajinsky/formTW

Alan King is worried Trueshan could have been in one too many battles having finished only second on his reappearance in Nottingham’s Barry Hills Further Flight Stakes.
A winner of 13 of his 22 starts, the dual Group One scorer used the Colwick Park Listed contest as his starting point 12 months ago and was the 4-9 favourite to defend his crown and make a winning return.
However, having travelled smoothly into contention at the three-furlong pole, he could not get past Hugo Palmer’s Rajinsky, leaving the Barbury Castle handler to ponder if his star stayer has gone to the well once too often — with his next outing potentially proving crucial.
He said: “I’m very disappointed. He hasn’t run a bad race, but it was disappointing.
“Hollie thought she would win three out but knew she was beat two out.
“I just worry he has had a lot of very hard battles and just worry it is starting to leave its mark on him mentally. That’s what worries me more than anything, but we will know more after his next race.
