One of my frequent positive comments about the Travelers Championship is how it is able to raise so much money for a number of Connecticut based charities. One of its primary beneficiaries has been the Hole In the Wall Gang Camp, which had been established by the late Paul Newman as a place where children with diseases or disabilities or other profound issues could go and "just be kids." Mr. Newman dedicated all of the profits of Newman's Own foods to the camp.
Two years ago, the camp suffered a very damaging fire. Some feared it would no be able to continue. I'm delighted to post a link to an article that appeared today that describes its rebuilding and reopening. Here's the link. The article is, IMO, worth a read.

I know someone who used to deliver ice cream mix …he said it was a wonderful place… He just missed Paul and JoAnn one day but there was a story that a woman bought an ice cream and then saw the two of them and she was so excited she put the ice cream in her purse instead of her change….

Paul Newman did so much good,(and continues on) for so many kids. Beside the Hole In The Wall camps up north he and General H. Norman Schwarzkopf created Camp Boggy Creek here in Florida. "Camp Boggy Creek was founded in 1996 by Actor Paul Newman and General H. Norman Schwarzkopf, with one simple premise in mind… that every child, no matter their illness, could experience the transformational spirit and friendships that go hand in hand with Camp." www.boggycreek.org/
