Nice card, two GII on turf, GII & GIII on dirt, and two turf handicaps.
MEY R2 (9:35am ET)- 1m4f Vazirabad Handicap (Turf) (4yo+ 90-112)
www.racingpost.com/racecards/1231/meydan/2023-02-03/832235
#1- Dhahabi (5-2) saved ground last time when fourth in the prep for this, will do so again with rail draw, unlike stablemate #8- First Ruler (2-1) which drew PP11.
EX- 1/3,6,8 Result: 8,2,3 First Ruler ($6.00) sat in mid-pack and unleashed a powerful run to hit the front in mid-stretch, lugging in strongly to his left while clear. Meanwhile Dhahabi did himself no favors by over-racing early and tiring late.
MEY R3 (10:10am ET)- 6f Al Shindagha Sprint (Group 3) (Dirt) (3yo+)
www.racingpost.com/racecards/1231/meydan/2023-02-03/832237
Couple of scratches decimated my plays in here. #6- Isolate (5-1) makes UAE debut for Doug Watson, won the Tale of The Cat at SAR two back. Has gate speed, adds blinkers, will he handle the track?
EXBOX- 3,6,8 Result: 13,6,4 Veteran Meydan runner Tuz ($18.40) drew the rail and was sent immediately to the front, never looked back. Apparently being reinvented as a sprinter. Isolate ran well from a stalking position, he seemed to handle the track well and can be a future bet, albeit at a short-ish price.
MEY R4 (10:45am ET)- 1m Cape Verdi (Group 2) (Fillies & Mares) (Turf) (3yo+)
www.racingpost.com/racecards/1231/meydan/2023-02-03/832238
All four Godolphin runners drew good posts. #12- With the Moonlight (2-1) wants more ground than a mile, #11- Wild Beauty (8-1) has never recaptured her 2yo form, and #10- White Moonlight (9-2) still seems to be a work in progress. #9- Soft Whisper (7-2) has won four-of-five at a mile, needs a judicious ride by Tudhope but looks ready for another try at Graded-company. Don't sleep on Spanish runner #8- Samedi Rien (10-1) which is 8-for-13 lifetime and did not look out of place in the prep for this.
EX- 9/8,10,11,12 Result: 12,10,8 With the Moonlight ($3.20) had no trouble at the shorter trip today, always looked like the winner turning for home. White Moonlight can be a good one if she stays sound. Wild Beauty was in trouble by the far turn, faded badly. Samedi Rien ran very well once again, good filly! Soft Whisper is probably best at 7F after all, against top company.
MEY R5 (11:20am ET)- 1m1½f Al Maktoum Challenge R2 (Group 2) (Dirt) (3yo+)
www.racingpost.com/racecards/1231/meydan/2023-02-03/832239
I'll be surprised if anyone other than #1- Algiers (9-5) or #6- Remorse (4-1) is the winner in this, but can't play Algiers on top at current 1-2 odds.
EX- 6,7/1,2,6,7,9 Result: 1,9,6 Tough trip, no problem. Algiers ($3.00) absolutely crushed a good GII field despite racing wide all the way around.
MEY R6 (11:55am ET)- 1m1f Singspiel Stakes (Group 2) (Turf) (3yo+)
www.racingpost.com/racecards/1231/meydan/2023-02-03/832240
#1- Valiant Prince (5-2) is 3-for-3 at Meydan, meets no new shooters after winning the Al Rashidiya (GII) last time, drew well in PP2. #6- Ottoman Fleet (3-1) was highly-progressive as a 3yo, was third to the top one last time with no obvious excuse but may have just needed one over the course. A win-bet candidate if he stays at >= 3-1, but that may not happen.
TRI- 1,6/1,2,4,6,8/1,2,4,6,8 Result: 1,2,6 Triple $80.10 Valiant Prince ($5.60) actually went off second choice behind Ottoman Fleet, but won the long stretch battle with Alfareeq, which won the GI Jebel Hatta last year and should never have been let go at 14-1. I'll take it for once.
MEY R7 (12:30pm ET)- 1m The Valley (Handicap) (Turf) (3yo+ 90-106)

Not a fan of the Godolphin threesome, especially with some poor draws. #4- Legend of Dubai (5-1) is still lightly-raced as a 5yo, turns back to a mile and would like a strong pace to run into. Just a word about veteran #5- Zainhom (15-1) which is always a threat for a piece on a 'peak-Zainhom' run, thinking today is that day.
EX- 4/5,7,11 Result: 2,11,5 7yo Moqtarreb ($36.40) had a record of 14/0-2-0 at Meydan, but flew home in the finale with the pace falling apart late and closers rallying for the top spots. I wish I had bet place/show on my boy Zainhom (45-1) which peaked today to grab third place. Shadwell, which have been pretty quiet at the meet, get a first and a third.
Bet: $46.00 Returned: $80.10 Profit: $34.10 Meet record: Bet: $291.50 Won: $148.50 Loss: $-143.00
