"Not really my place to say, but going to anyhow. Mike Smith is a rider.
Mike Smith was paid, no doubt, handsomely for his appearance.
I never wager on a Jockey. You wager on The ability of the Competing Equine.
Betting on Jockeys is a proven road to the poor house. Just saying...
Sorry if I ruffle feathers here."
No, this is good... ruffle away, Bitowisdom!
I approach each race with the idea that the horses are evenly matched.
Each runner meets the required conditions to be entered in the race.
There is no set of mathematical calculation that will ever produce a price.
Niggling the numbers inevitably leads the handicapper to the 8/5 favorites.
I spent years figuring and finagling numbers, numbers, and more numbers.
To my style of play, the numbers only serve to identify possible false favorites.
So, if the runners all meet the conditions and I want prices above 10-1 or better,
and if the Maths only point to less appealing prices, there must be something else.
The intangibles bring me to the kinds of payouts that appeal to this horse player, me.
Jockeys are only paid some minimal amount as a riding fee...
the big money comes from the % they receive by hitting the board.
Mike Smith traveled across the country to ride $$$ money horses.
Horses that he and his agent felt had a chance, despite the numbers.
Mike had 4 mounts on Pegasus Day... Races 8, 10, 12 & 13.
$2 across the board as a Jockey Play brought these results.
R8 Diamond Wow was off the board.
R10 Octane ran second and paid $18.00 $9.40. Jock gets % of $27,900.
R12 One More Bid ran 5th earning Mike Smith a % of $27,900.
R13 Stilleto Boy ran 3rd paying $11.40... Jockey % of $280,000!
That is why Mike Smith traveled across the country to Gulfstream Park.
$2 across = $6
x4 races = $24
$18 + $9.40 + $11.40 = $38.80
Good jockeys get better mounts and great jockeys make good horses better.
Just like in poker... great players don't play the cards, they play the man.
Mike Smith is The Man!
