Feature race is the Firebreak Stakes (1M dirt, GIII). Co-features are the Dubai Sprint (6F turf, Listed) & Jumeirah Classic (9F turf, Listed, 3yo). 12 Godolphin runners in the four turf races, for those who are counting.
Unusual weather in Dubai and vicinity the last 24 hours (Thursday) with some heavy rain in places, and showers forecast into Friday. Turf currently listed as good, dirt is fast (?).
MEY R2 (9:35am ET)- 6f Dubai Sprint (Listed Race) (Turf) (3yo+)
www.racingpost.com/racecards/1231/meydan/2023-01-27/831919
#1- Man of Promise (4-5) like it here (7/3-1-1) and steps back up to his preferred trip today after good second to stablemate in the Dubai Dash. Hard to oppose with good draw in PP14 (stands side.)
TRI- 1/2,3,5,12/2,3,5,12 Result: 7,1,12 Man of Promise handled the off going well, but no one handled it better than Coachello ($68.20) which already had two Carnival runs this year, turned back to six furlongs and got softer ground over which he ran very well in France two years ago.
MEY R4 (10:45am ET)- 7f Jumeirah Fillies Classic (Conditions) (Fillies) (Turf) (3yo)

#8- Mawj (4-5) drew poorly in PP11 but I don't think it will matter, progressive filly is a GII winner and GI placed. In case the ground is softer than advertised, using #4- Dream of Love (7-2) which finished third at Newmarket over soft ground when last seen.
EX- 4,8/2,3,4,8,12 Result: 8,4,2 Exacta $13.00 Mawj ($6.80) looked to have the race put to bed, with my longshot #2 a clear second ($100 exacta) until Dream of Love turned on the afterburners late and just lost the bob at the wire. Good efforts from both the Godolphin runners.
MEY R5 (11:20am ET)- 1m2f Zabeel Turf (Handicap) (Turf) (3yo+) (90-105)

Not sure what to expect from #9- Blue Trail (5-1) which drew the rail but may need firm ground. Buick chose elsewhere and got a terrible draw. Using two on top, #10- Brilliant Light (7-1) from Godolphin/bin Suroor which gets his best distance today and PP3,& #12- Legend of Dubai (8-1) which developed nicely for Roger Varian in GB before being sent here, gets PP2.
EXBOX- 1,8,10 Result: 2,7,11 Slowly-run race that fell apart in the stretch anyways. Good Fortune ($91.60) had won half his career starts but assessing Scandanavian form is difficult. Saeed bin Suroor loved White Wolf and you could see why, just lost the bob after flying home late.
MEY R6 (11:55am ET)- 1m Firebreak Stakes (Group 3) (Dirt) (3yo+)

Maybe #5- Law of Peace (5-2) can get a hot pace to run into and duplicate his impressive off-the-pace win from last season.
EX- 5/1,3,6,7 Result: 7,3,8 Prince Eiji ($16.60) sat a good trip one off the rail and out of the kickback from the leader, made it look easy in a 1-2-3 sweep for trainer Doug Watson.
MEY R7 (12:30pm ET)- 1m1f Jumeirah Classic (Listed Race) (Turf) (3yo)
www.racingpost.com/racecards/1231/meydan/2023-01-27/831924
#4- Highbank (5-1) drew widest last time in the Trial but was finishing fast up the rail despite lacking a clean run. Uninspiring betting card today to be sure.
